Wanting to do some late hunting around Spokane but don't have any idea where to go??? Any advice/tips/locations will be WELL appreciated by this rookie!!!
My hunting buddy and I struck out during the regular season!
-
anyone need a late hunt hunting partner?
-
Modern or archery?
-
Modern
-
I'll chat with some friends that modern hunt, I do archery with my daughter.
-
Much appreciated! I know most of the area is private from what I have heard!
-
Are wanting to go North or South of town?
-

Yeah Ive been living hear for the last 3 months and goin to college. All I seem to find is private land and the owners arent real friendly which I dont reallly understand unless maybe they get asked all the time but really I wasnt rude so y should they be rude back to me.

Get out of town and there is lots of land to hunt. Most of the little chunks of state around spokane get hammered, it's worth the extra couple bucks in gas to get a little further away. Get some maps and do you're research, you'll get a lot further than asking for spots from people on here.
-
North or South of town really doesn't matter. Of course it would be closer south...but either is fine. I just have never been up that way and I know there are a bunch of guys on here who have familiarity with the area.
Thanks for the replies.

You might want to check the regs before hunting south of spokane for late buck. Unless things have changed, you might find yourself in some trouble.
-
I know the regs. GMU 124 is the "southernmost" GMU that has the late hunt.
-
There aren't any deer north of Spokane. ;)
-
Then can I come up there and chase rabbits?
-
Kill da wabbit. :hunter:

I wasn't too sure you knew after the first quote posted above. It's kind of hard to hunt south of Spokane in unit 124, since it's not there and all.
-
Im confused now................there is a 124 unit which would be called Mount Spokane but what are you talkin about shedseeker :dunno: I guess its not south of spokane but its still there just north of spokane :)
-
Yes Mossback91 unit 124 is called the Mount Spokane unit. That units southern most boundary is the spokane river. Therefor It would be very hard for bamalefty to hunt south of Spokane since the Spokane river goes through the City of Spokane (East to West). I was trying to help him out after he made this statement.

Because obviously either north or south of town is not fine. North is, as that is unit 124. South is not .
But he knows the Regs so I guess he doesnt need help ;) Might be worth it for you to just follow him around and collect your 10 points.

Shed, lets don't get ridiculous here! I don't appreciate that comment. I was making a joke about not having to drive any further than I needed to.
Don't cut down your fellow posters. I was simply asking for some advice...not ridicule.
-
Lets be serious............ you weren't making a joke, or at least it sure didn't come across as one.
I'm just trying to help you out and keep you from making a mistake and hunting a wrong unit.
-
Jesus man! Everybody knows where the God Dang Gmu boundary's are! Please get back to the subject. :bash:
I'm just like Bama, not sure where to go. I have a paperland permit and was thinking of dropping in south from the Blanchard hump a couple of times this week after work. Does anybody know this area? Is it worth it? :dunno:

There is lots of public land and lots of deer in the Huckleberry unit in Stevens County.
Check out this public lands map.

There's deer there, and it can be productive. Just be ready to have quads zipping down every rd. up there. A lot of it is cut, and the deer like to hang out in the draws that have small strips of old growth left in them. If you spend a couple full days out there you should be able to get it done. There's also the IEP land out of Thompson Creek, that's a little closer and holds quite a few deer as well.
-
Thanks Shed. I'll lace up the boots and hit it! And cry and whine about the quads until the day i can afford my own :chuckle:
-
The deer up there are smart to the quads, you can literally watch them hide or "freeze" sometimes and the quads go right by :chuckle:. It's a good spot the last week, especially if there is snow. They'll be chasing the does pretty hard during that second week.
-
Just up there today! It loooks fairly productive
-
I hear tell that the 3 Rocks area on the Northside of the Blanchard cutoff is a nice place to go for a walk....... ;)

I might be headed into the Huckleberry unit this weekend. A friend of mine took leave yesterday and as of about 1 pm, he hadn't seen anything. If not, maybe Chewelah or up around Colville. I can't decide.
-
3 Rocks is absolutely beautiful for a walk, unfortunately no deer as of mon. night:'(

I lived in Spokane for 4 years and hunted out around Chewelah. Quarry Browns Lake Rd. will take you into the hills on the west side of the hwy. There is some disabled hunting in that area but is legal walk in. I like getting behind closed gates anyway. On the east side go up Sand Canyon Rd an it will take you into some great public land. When I 1st moved there was so excited to see all the open land on the map and so discouraged when I drove and drove and found nothing but private fenced posted land. I made friends with the guys who hunted at work and they were kind enough to share the areas they hunted. Great bear hunting around there too. Good luck.
