I am looking at getting a new pup and looking for idea names. Thank you!
-
Everytime we get a new pet we have to make a trip to the liquor store.
-
My black labs name is Hawg, he is actually Hawg the third. My yellows name is beezy.
Wanted to name her phat. So I would have phat and Hawg, but that was a no go with the kids. My lab when I was a kid was named Diogee (dog). I prefer single syllable names for dogs.sometimes I think having your pup for a week or two before naming them is a good plan, figure out their personality. That's how Hawg 1 got his name, he ate everything including the tops off all my wife's flowers. Have fun with it.

My dog is a chocolate lab and I named him Decoy. When I first got him I called him Dekes, but now that is just his signal to retrieve.
-

It's looking like its going to be a female lab. Thanks for all the names so far!

We had a list of names on our way to pick up our little golden, once we met her, a completely different name, not on the list, popped up. That's how Amber got her name. I really think you need to meet the pup before assigning it a name. :twocents:

Only criteria my dogs names must meet is they must not sound like;
Here

Most Recent ones have been; Cletus, Miesha, Sabin, Megan, Charlie.
One of my favorites is Japanese, DeeYoGee :sry:

Dogs growing up and now have always had single syllable names or short abbreviated nicknames for the field. I agree with letting them be at home for a week and then choose a name. Growing up we had one German Shorthair we ended naming RJFA. Running jumping fing around. Or RJ in the field. Good luck with the new pup.

We had a jack Russell named boyscout . scout for short always liked it .

When I picked dog names they had to adhere to the same criteria as above, but I had some additional requirements. I preferred 2 syllable names that could be yelled into the wind and heard from longer distances.
And the more important one was they couldn't rhyme with any of the following: G*d D*mm*t, sum a b*tch, and just about any other swear word one can imagine. :chuckle: :chuckle:

Last dog I named- i named after a redhead I used to know. When people asked Why I had a dog named Rachel- I would tell them that I wanted to name her after one of the most destructive forces in the universe- a redhead.. but the truth is I just wanted to name her after someone who was friendly to EVERYBODY..
-
Gonna name my next dog "Skagit" feel free to steal it if you like.
-
My next chessy will be Lucy.
-
Sounds like the redhead should have been called Lucy !! :chuckle:

First saw my English Setter in his litter on a July 4th. Named that dog "Boomer".
We had an Australian Shepherd who we named "Sydney" after the Australian city and because it sounded cool. Just got another Aussie pup and decided to name him "Wiley". Sorta reminds me of "Wiley Coyote".

jake beat me to it but I will second the deal with roscoe. it is a studdly and cool name. easy to remember and resonant(what ever that means). you can say it very loud without choking. mike w
-
My favorite dog of all time was my golden lab "Gunner". Guns for short.
I named my current boy "G" in remembrance, but I tell people it's short for gangster.
-
Best dog I've ever had was named Magnum. Big Chocolate lab that lived to hunt.
Always wanted to get a pair of labs and name one Harley and the other Davidson.
What I would really like is to do is get a black lab and name him Obama. After hunting him hard all day I would return home and demand that he donate half his food to less fortunate dogs that lay around all day long. and when he gets sick I would take him to the worst vet I can find that charges twice what a good vet charges :chuckle:
-
"Dee Oh Gee" is always a good one
Lets see....I have had...Ciao, Shorty, Deva, Tug, Sherrie, Ruby(also called Scooby or Scoobs) Max, Shotgun (Gun), Willy, currently are Rex and Tiny, oh there was Nona (NoNo), Byron...then not my dogs but some more dog names....Spike, Jake, Cordy, Scooter, Kisses, Gloria, Goldy, Duffer, Scandal, gosh been so many friends and family dogs plus all the show dogs of my dog show friends have heard some really good ones over the years course my brain aint working tonite.
