has anyone ever hunted on the seaplane base for waterfowl? i know they got blinds out there and a bunch of people use them but dont know anyone who has so figured i would turn to here.
-
Are you talking about the Naval Air Station?! :dunno:
-
Yes i have. No to bad actually. But you need a permit from the base and must be military! don't go there and get caught not being military... not good news for you ... I know that the WDFW has an agreement, if you get caught hunting there and do not have the permit you will be cited for poaching.
-
Hunt there all the time. If you are not military or do not have a pass and know somebody who does (like this guy), you can hunt as a guest. The entire marsh is tidal so be aware of that as well.
-
NAH, there are no birds over there.. and the blinds arent any good. dont bother. :)

VERY! lol. And check the winds too. Lol
Just another story

well lucky for me i am navy and do have the permit, what im really trying to figure out is what blinds are the best and if there are any that are not so great. i know they had people out there not to long ago repairing them so not worried about that.
-
Hundreds of birds on the base, if they were measured for trophy class they would hold all the records! but they are fast and are to hit with shotguns! :yike:

Don't waste your time with blinds AF1, AF2, and AF3 they are so overgrown the ducks avoid AF2 and AF3, and AF1 is so overgrown that the edge of the water to the blind is 40 yards. My dogs would not even retrieve in that stuff. Watch the tides and pick your blinds wisely. Blind 7 and 1 you can get stranded really easy. Blinds 2 and 3 I HIGHLY recommend a walking stick to feel for holes...

They rebuilt two blinds. Its my opinion that they should've left the blinds out of there and just assigned areas to hunt. Where blind 7 is, you'll be pass shooting more birds since the birds like the pockets behind the blind. At low tide all the blinds stick out like sore thumbs.

I've never checked out the AF blinds, but I've been told that as well. Blind 4 and 5 will get you stranded as well during a big positive tide swing. Blind 6 is out there and you'll get stuck as well. Blind 2 and 3 you do need sticks to check for holes and blind 1 is still blown away.

Is Corey on here?

Is Corey on here?
I doubt so. He got tenured out. He still lives between OH and Coupeville though.

I'm signed up for blind 3 tomorrow morning so good to know about the holes. I'm getting ready to go find it now so I'm not wandering around in the dark
-
Good try to hit the blind well before 0700 or the upland release guy will give you the 3rd degree, for walking through the field. He releases them right at 0700. Let us know how you did and provide pics if you can

Shooting light starts at 0710, so you can hit the blind around 0640. The tide will be coming in, so it'll be awhile before you have water. If I'm back from deer hunting before the evening shoot, I've got blind 1, but I should be back in time for Sunday morning out of blind 1 with a guest.

yeah i went and checked it out, gonna try out a spot i know down in coupeville instead. couldnt even find blind 6
-

Park at the sewage ponds. Walk around to the right, cross the metal bridge. Look out into that cove back there. The blind is painted green for some reason. PM me you number, I'll get hold of you, and I'll show you around out there.if your looking for someone to go with when i get back i will go with you.... But yeah there are some good places.... Blind 7 is good
Especially late season during high tides.

I was down in coupeville Saturday but had no luck, weather was super nice. Got blind 6 reserved for Saturday but still got to find it, only looked for it walking from blind 3 so I will check from the base side

It should be good  Find it in the daylight the day before so you can find it in the dark. Watch the tides and dont be like the guys I saw in 6 yesterday :yike: With 5 and 7 being about 300-400 yards away they may push ducks your way as well. ANy more info PM me with your phone # and I can call you.

when i get back maybe we can all get together for a duck hunt on the base???

Take a stick when looking for holes and know the tide schedule so you don't get stuck out there.
