Just got back from elk hunting in the Winston area (520). Our group got there on Friday afternoon set up camp and got ready for opening day. Opening day, we walk to our hunting site about 1/2 mile away or so and began to wait in the thick stuff for movement of animals, no luck. I hear at least 20 different groups of shots some raging from 1 to 4, I was thinking that those animal are really though or the shooter is a NSF (non Shooting f@#k), missed and had to take consecutive shots. 11:00 o'clock rolls around and we headed back to camp for lunch when we discovered what the shooting is all about. ROAD HUNTER'S were indiscriminately shooting into the woods to scare off animals. Just how smart is that? We talked to some folks there and they said they saw the same thing. Needless to say our planned week long hunt was cut short due to safety reasons. I am gonna have to archery hunt next year just to avoid getting hit with a stray bullet.

Did you report them? Sorry to hear your hunt was ruined.
-
Sorry to here about your hunt
-
I wouldnt be surprised if it was a orchestrated effort by the antis to disrupt the hunt
-
It could have been anti's. No we did not report it I could not get service out there, I am sure other hunters will report it specially those who we talked too, they mentioned they were going to look in to it more.

I am afraid that this kind of activity would not even be condoned by road hunters and it really sucks that you lump them right in with the POS anti's, I have several friends that are road hunters and it is because of one disability or another and would never condone this type of activity. I know other folks that road hunt as well that are not disabled and even them would have no part in what you describe, can't imagine them being "Hunters"
Sorry your hunt was ruined by someone though !! :(

There is a favorite spot of mine in the Methow that I hunt deer in. In the past few years the area has been being bought up by Granola's and they are less than personable. Well the last couple years they seem to have a well planned agenda, and thats to scare away the deer in the public land. Every morning I see them pushing their strolers, with kids, up the road and down the service roads. Typically they are followed by a couple gals on bikes and they ring handlebar mounted bells the whole way, talking loud and making as much noise as they can. Of course they don't wear orange either :dunno: but to each their own.

I would of shot back!!! Thats the main reason I started bow hunting 10yrs ago! No brush shotting hunters at bow season.....sorry to hear that.

Sure there are, grouse season starts then too and they are just as bad at times :bash:

That is absolutely insane :o Sorry to hear your hunt was ruined.

Trust me everyone bow hunting sucks, stay in your respective user group. There is no animals out in Sept anyways. The heat is crazy and if you happen to get one down it will spoil before you can get it out. It would be better to switch gmu's than user group.

user group? wtf? I hope your just being a :sas:

My question is how in the heck is shooting INTO the woods going to scare animals out so a road hunter could get it? Last time I shot at an animal it ran AWAY from me. I think it may have been just a bunch of idiots trying to screw up the hunting. For all anyone knows it could have been a group of archers or muzzleloaders trying to keep the elk for them. Anyway we look at it..

Here how bad the hunters are in Wa. I hit the scan button on my radio (yes it is a matter of how bad we are). I heard three different hunters telling their buddies they would fire off a shot to find their way. Yes I use some technology to help out group, but I have never had to fire a shot to find my way back in in 39yrs of hunting. I used to figure someone killed a bull now it is just finding their PU. Please let me retire and claim another state.

That's so weird. Most of the anti hunters I know are scared to make eye contact with a gun, much less pick it up and shoot it. But it doesn't make sense a hunter would be trying to scare the animals way. :dunno: Either way, that is NOT a safe place to be! Good you got outta there.
-
Hard to say...some guys like to shoot their guns once they get out into the GREAT OUTDOORS without regard to those who are already there. Maybe that was the day that the critters were moving, and the shots were mostly on legal critters. Never know.......
-
I agree that the anti-hunters would not shoot wildly into the woods. I don't see them using guns for anything. If that was really their agenda, they would have just honked the horn and blasted the radio. That's much cheaper than using ammo...not to give em' any ideas.
It was just some dangerous road hunters and I think we should all do our part to report it when we see it or hear it.
Sorry for the bad luck. I've called off a couple hunts because of similar circumstances.
