Anybody seeing any indications of the migration starting to pick up? Starting to see a ton of honkers but where the ducks at? Hopefully this cold front will bring some new birds in.
Post your migration reports (without giving away your honey hole)

I am seeing a lot of birds, but a good storm would really be the push we need. Many fields are still empty with ducks. When they start loading up, the northerns are in. A good indicator for our area in NW Washington.

seeing swans
Yes, they just started showing this past week.
-
Last sunday saw tons of snows flying over whidbey, they were high and V'd up, or as close to a v as they can get :chuckle:

I'm really good a pretending like I know everything but that's completely false by all accounts - what indication do the swans give you as far as the migration? Are they first ones to leave their northern grounds or what?
-
Yakima valley has very few ducks right now. The only new birds are pretty much pintails and there aren't even many of them

Yeah, not much going on in my neck of the woods. A few teal, pintail, and widgeon. Need some weather. This weekend should help.

They are not first. But they are easy identifiers as they look like 747's and are white. They stand out very well. They are for the most part non-resident and spend summer months in Canada and Alaska for this flyway. As the tundra and breeding grounds start to freeze they keep ahead of the hard freeze. Looking at weather forecasts up north, we should see a good push over the next two weeks.

:yeah: always been a rule of thumb that was passed on to me. When you start seeing swans in the skagit the migration is kicking off!!!! May not have the mallards to show for it yet. But there coming. Migration is a happening!!! Stock up on some shells it's go time.

Somebody said that big wind storm Sunday night pushed a few northern groups down into the Yakima valley. Supposedly there was a Cold front that moved into Canada. As of Sunday I hadn't seen big numbers in the valley.

i hunted yesterday down there and there weren't that many birds around, shot my limit by 930 but it was a very mixed bag of puddle ducks.

1000 snows or more. On cook road ,Skagit .
Another 200 west of 232. Seeing more snows north of Fir Island this year.
Samish is sloooow. Talked to a guy today who killed one teal.
He said he talked to a guy shooting off the dike that had a limit.
Not much water in the ponds yet. Lots of food. But light on ducks.
Going out to work on the pup in am.
