Hey guys... I was just wondering how the deer population is doing over in the 113 unit? I haven't hunted over there since the bad winter of the mid 90's and I've decided to give it a shot. I'm taking my 2 young boys (13 & 15) over for late buck around North Baldy/4th of July creek area. Its all about my boys guys and getting them their 1st deer. Any help would greatly be appreciated, Thanks fella's.

A hunting buddy and I hunt late muzzle in 113 every year. We hunt mostly in the bearpaw/lower west branch. In my opinion this unit has still not recovered from a series of hard winters. The whitetail herd is few and far between.
I doubt the wolves will help!

I agree :yeah:
I see fewer deer than I used to..... both whitetail and mule deer.

Yeah I tend to agree with the numbers still being down. It's not what it used to be pre-2008/2009 IMHO.

Man I hope this isn't a wasted week long trip. We're staying in Ione so maybe from there we should drive a little west into the 111 unit instead of east into the 113 unit.
:dunno:

It's never a wasted weekend if your out hunting especially with the kids. Bear season is still open and there are still a lot of bears up there!
I still go every year even though I know there is not a ton of deer. It's beautiful country! Don't forget the .22. I always get a few grouse up there to.

I love that area in the late season.
I hunted last season for 3 days and saw 5 bull moose, 1 bear and no deer up high, but down low there was a lot more deer sign.

I used to hunt this area pretty hard and pulled out some dandy bucks back in the day. Great country and the scenery doesn't get much better than over there so I guess me and the kids will probably just stay low within a couple miles from the river. Thanks guys

It is always worth a drive up high. If there is snow you may be able to set of tracks. Not alot of areas for glassing where I have hunted up there
