Was wondering if anyone hunts 204 during late archery and was curious how it is? Thanks!

Hunted this area for many years. There aren't hardly any animals up there no more. Lots of local poachers and very few gamies.

I live and hunt in 204 near the north end.  I think the deer out number people 5-1.  Cold yes and lots of private but if you can find time to set up some cams w bait sight it's a very productive unit.  I strictly bow hunt and rarely see any other hunters.  Most rifle/muzzy up here.  PM if you have any questions.

I own property in the pontiac ridge area and have been hunting and vacationing in the area for the last 21 years and started muzzy hunting 3yrs ago and did my first year of archery this year and would not recommend modern to anyone. I have no late archery experience but like highmuley said animal numbers aren't what they used to be. what area of the unit are you planning to hunt?

Do people from eastern Washington realize that most people from western Washington hunting over there don't live near the coast. It's only about 130 miles from Seattle to the Coast past Aberdeen  :chuckle:

Too funny.  This guy slams wet siders and back in September he was talking about growing up in Burlington. Hypocritical mentality.  No need to blame us for your tag soup bud:)

It doesn't matter to us, if you're west of the pacific crest trail you're a coastie!

To the OP. 204 is awesome, some of the biggest buck I've ever seen are in there, but its not open till Nov 27th. By then you'll have missed the best part of the rut. I hunt elsewhere.

Yes thats great.  Funny I took a cousin up there and camped at the dnr camp at the lakes.  He left to hunt and I stayed behind to wait for a local buddy to stop in.  A short walk behind the lake were some nice Muley bucks hanging out!  He got skunked that day.  I had to tell him he went to far that day. :chuckle:

I am from CA and raised in WA and proud of it. Every where you go you will have people who do crap. Plain and simple, we are from the same State. Some people choose to separate the east from the west. Your choice, come to the west side and lets meet for a BBQ. My house isn't big and I do not own a lot of land but I will do my best to treat everyone with the respect as one should, unless you disrespect me first.

To stay on topic, I have no clue about that area... sorry,

I am a coastie....I have lived on the wet side my entire life. We own property in 204 and have owned it for 30+ years. We have built a couple cabins (forest fire) with permits so all is legal. I contribute several thousand $$ to the economy of Okanogan county in supplies and fuel each year, be it for the truck, tractor, quad, boats, chainsaws.....you name it. I do not consider myself much different than a lot of the folks I have met over there over the years. Bottom line I do what I do and let you do what you do  :hello:.

Back to the OP there area deer there and a fair number. No not as many as there was years past but it is still fun to hunt that area if you have the chance. I have had several members if this site stay at our cabin over the years to hunt out of and there are plenty of deer to be had. I do not get a deer every year but usually every other year. As mentioned the rut will be over by then but the bait pile will be being used. I will not get over to really get our bait pile ( for game cams only) going this year as work will keep me on the west side for the next few weeks. I will get the bait pile and more cams going after Turkey day.

Campmeat, what elevation are you at? My brother is headed over this week to burn some piles and cut a little wood, is there snow a 2800 ft? As for the poaching I have had several of our neighbors (within a couple miles) over the years tell me hunting is always better before  the season and shots after dark do not get called in? That is not proof of poaching but it lends to the thoughts. Also the deer I shot three years ago was full of shot (like every meal we had) and had two .22 bullets in the legs we found while skinning it. Again no proof of poaching but  :dunno:.

I'm at 2200 '. There is snow all over now. It's freezing so I don't think the snow is going away. There's poachers all over because there is no work here and people do what they gotta do I guess.

Yes, referring to the mountain with Waconda in its shadow.  I like that area.  I can not believe it takes until Thanksgiving for rut, however.  Seems late to me but I am more of a muley guy in 101.

I dont mean to be rude BUT, my comments come from speaking to locals directly, that happily admit they take multiple deer out of season AND from speaking to gamies in the area. While I dont mean to assume that ALL locals do this, there are many. So calm down

We have SNOW over here and it looks like Christmas. For all you late season hunters, be prepared to use chains. It's miserable right now with the we, sloppy snow. I got stuck in my yard with studs all the way around.
