How old is he?
-
19. He has only shot a doe with his bow and is at wsu now. Football and school kind of took over his hs years. He drew with 3 points this year. We will be there Friday am through Monday.

-
I'm in the entiat helping a friend. 60 degrees and tough pickings today.
-
Heading over next week for my Gardner quality tag. Pretty excited about the recent weather reports.
-
Still nothing?
-
Should be some big bucks soon, good luck to all the permit tag holders. :hunter:
-
Still early. When I've had late permits, my lucky day has always been November 8th.
-
I haven't seen a buck yet I would notch on, though I haven't been out for three days of the best weather due to my sick wife.
-
I'm in the entiat helping a friend. 60 degrees and tough pickings today.
Things got better.
-
I'm not sleeping well with dreams of whitetails, snow and temps in the teens filling my head. 5 days till liftoff.
-
For sny of the late hunters be advised the snow is moving down the mountains, here in the Methow, daily and pushing a lot of deer ahead of it
-
-
Myself and 6x6in6 watched a young kid kill a 23" wide 4x4 today in the chiwawa. Kids first buck which was pretty cool. We have both been seeing a few deer here and there but nothin to hang our tags on. It still early...
-
Any anow up there yet camodup?
-
Should be some good bucks hitting the dirt on these tags from what I seen came out of a couple units on the last couple days .......show me some :yeah:
-
Any anow up there yet camodup?
Ya there is about 4" @ about 6000
-
we saw a giant muley in ID friday chasing does 180+ 4pt..lotta rut activity
-
We were hunting Sat. morning for my son's late WT in 218 and walked up on a really nice 170" muley, now you might ask why we seen a big muley while WT hunting, well this guy had already came out of the hills and was within a 100 yards of the chewuch river about 18 miles north of town. My neighbor seen a really nice buck Fri. morning with a herd of does but went back up this morning and the buck was not with the herd so they don't know if someone shot it or was just taking a break somewhere close by. Whitetail hunting sucked only seen 4 does, will give it another try this weekend.
-
Here's a quick report from the Entiat and my buddy's tag.
Friday the opener was warm and calm, and we saw very little activity, high and low. The front moved in on Saturday, and we started the day with a 130's class buck rutting up a small group of does way down low. Good sign. Battled the fog and saw deer here and there, not a ton, presumably mostly residents. We glassed and worked our way up high, and hit fresh snow at about 5,000 feet. It was snowy and blowing sideways, made it really tough to glass. On the way to the top, we hardly saw any tracks in the snow - discouraging, as I figured that snow would get them moving downhill. But on the way back down a while later, we started seeing a lot more activity, including one 140's class buck trotting straight down the mountain. No does in sight, looked like he just wanted out of the nasty weather.
At the end of the day we worked our way back to the bottom. As luck would have it, way down low, we had a doe walk out of the hill crease above us...then another doe, then another, then a big buck...good mass, dark horns, and deep forks, and that did the trick!
-
Awsome buck
-
 Nice Buck!!
-
Well done, nice buck.
-
That's a stud! Congrats to your buddy
-
That's a solid buck, hard to pass a deer like that up! Any more pics? Did you guys put a tape on him?
-
Hefty one!
-
That's a solid buck, hard to pass a deer like that up!
Agreed. Also tough to tag out after two days, but that dilemma is part of the fun! I had a late tag last year, and learned that seeing big bucks in that country and getting a good shot at them can be two completely different things.
I think he'll post up a longer story and more pics.
-
nice buck.. Congrats
-
I was up scouting for my late archery tag this weekend. The snow on Saturday started at 3700' and we went all the way up to 4500' before turning back. The snow hadn't starting piling up yet when we were up there and we were running out of daylight so back down the hill we went.
Steven's had probably 4" of new snow and was snowing heavily when we came home Sunday.
I'm gettin' giddy....
-
Today was the first day I hunted my later permit. Saw 2 doe and 2 fawns. Got til the 24th.

Thanks all, here are a few more pix WAcoues was referring to, and thankfully took (he takes mighty purty pix on the mountain).

I'll have to post a couple more from the camera which are even better when I can write more details about the hunt. It keeps amazing me that in the pictures with the whole deer the rack looks small but when you look at the rack alone it is still freakin' sweet and tall.
Considering I spent 3 days in 245 during modern with some other friends in65+ weather, even up high, without seeing much sign or action, and nearly the same story on Friday in 247 checking many nooks and crannies from top to bottom, this opportunity was too good to pass up. I was prepared to come back and hunt more later in the hunt once the rut was hitting harder and more weather had set in, but this buck and situation was just too good to pass up. Very happy to have this buck and to have put a good shot on him.

-
Here are a couple more photos, mostly the same, but slightly different angles on the rack.
When we saw the 3 does crossing the draw, you just knew wished a buck like this was going to be chasing them. A quick check with the glasses confirmed all we needed to know.
-
Great buck! I definitely wouldn't have passed him up.
-
Great buck for sure.
I have seen a few 388 Late bucks that have hit the ground. One masher and a couple mid sized for our area.
-
I appreciate that. Definitely feel good all around on this guy.

-
 Your right the picture of the deer alone is deceiving because of the body size yet when your in the picture you can really see the mass and height. Great buck!
-
I will be heading out friday for my late palouse tag for moderen the 9th to the 19th. Hope I tag out with a big one.
-
Nice buck!!

Great buck, congrats. Getting excited to leave in a few days for my sons hunt.
-
Good luck to all those heading out this weekend. I am looking at the weather reports and it looks nasty in the N cascades right now, should be good news for you guys. I hope the bruisers are all stirred up runnin down the hill.
I was so excited last Thursday to head out on the AM. I could barely sleep after loading up my rig that night.

-
Very nice buck! I have a set of sheds from that area that have the same genetics. Heavy, no eye guards, and huge G3's. Again, nice buck and congrats!!
-
Counting the days before I leave for my desert archery tag. It's like waiting for Christmas as a 9 year old again. I even built a paper chain to remove a link from everyday for my count down. Not really but I thought about it. The wife told me it's a one in eight-ten year thing so I don't even have to come back for Turkey day. I'll be leaving on the 23rd hunt starts the 25th. I will be there hunting for at least the first seven days after that my wife and boss at work said we can play it by ear.
-
nice buck
-
I"d have put the hurt to him as well Bronco. Great buck. I've been looking over a lot of bucks the last few days and he is a solid trophy.

-

-
Nice mature buck Westside88, double throat patch too.
Thanks, I like that double patch too. I don't really judge a buck by score, but this one taped out just under 175 after 6" of deduct. Works for me
-
Nice one Westside. Lots of character all over, makes him look more nasty.
I dig that spread and even forks on the quilomene buck too. I got one a couple years ago like that out of state but clearly not as wide as this one.

Sounds like there is about 2 inches on the ground around north of Spokane at 2500 ft or so. Looking forward to a "white" late buck season over here. Best of luck.
-
Lots of character on the buck westside, congrats
-
Great bucks guys! Getting stoked for my late archery tag!

Saw lots of 3 pts, saw one stud 28 ' 4x4 on private land, best deer of the trip, could not hold out and shot this 4x4 with eye guards and got a chocolate bear bonus as well.
great hunt Chewuch unit 218
-
Nice job on the double! Which tag did you have Max?
-
Pearrygin Unit 224, one hour into the hunt on Sunday the 10th. This was the one of eight four point bucks we had seen within 800 yards of each other and he was the biggest of the bunch as far as I could tell. When I saw the eye guards, I couldn't pass him up, he was just too close to the rig. Why wait and have a longer drag.
-
Very nice bucks!
Close to the truck is always nice and you got a nice buck to boot Elk

Saw a lot of 3x3s as well and some big 2x2s and a blonde buck. Great job on the beautiful bonus bear!

Finally figured out a round about way to get the pictures on! This is My sister's first buck on our duel Chewuck late hunt. We had a lot of fun even though we didn't see the caliber of bucks we had hoped to see. This was the biggest we saw.

This is mine that I shot the day we left for home. We could have stayed the last three days but work was calling me back. We had the time of our lives! Met some from this sight and others who had dinner in our camp.

My sons late Alta muzzy buck. I already posted this picture in the muzzleload section but I wanted to post it on this thread. I haven't seen any other Alta late bucks posted anywhere, rifle or muzzleload. Just wondering how the other hunters faired. We didn't see very many good bucks, maybe the weather was to nice or the rut was over. My son was very happy to get this one.
-
That's an awesome buck Boom. Love the mass and those main beams.

Wow! That is a heavy antlered buck! Do you have a side view? I've hunted the Alta unit a lot during general season. Cool looking buck!
-
I want to see the side view also. Tell your son congrats.

Here are the only 2 side views I took. It was before we cleaned some of the blood off of him.

Nice deer congrats to all

nice buck, great character. love how it forks in the back like that

Nice buck Boom. My guess is the Alta permit hunters didn't fair as well as they used to. Damn shame the population and quality has gone so far south.

Cant be true, why else would they increase those permits unless population and quality have increased as well?
-
cuz dfw would never do anything to miss manage our game.right :chuckle:

Of all the stupid changes they have made the last several years, increasing the quality permits throughout the Methow Valley this year was among the worst! :mor:
-
I was just gona start a thread on how you guys think the rifle permits did this year. It sounds like some very nice bucks were taken but overall numbers don't seem very good, unless most don't post? My friend and I were talking about what to put in for next year with 10 points, I'm glad I didn't draw for the swakane or entiat this year with no snow to bring down the migration bucks.

They were being compassionate to the hunters, let us have hem before the wolves eat them! :yike:

There were some toads taken out of those two units this year by permit hunters.

[/quote. I know there was a couple very nice bucks taken, I would rather have the snow if I drew a tag. I'm glad I didn't draw this year, but I know it's still a good tag.

Late buck
Thats a Great buck. The eyegaurds look massive!
-
The lack of snow made for some average bucks being harvested in areas that would normally produce Hogs, that should make
the 2014 season that much better, unless Bigfoot eats em all.

Well, when do the natives have to quit hunting? That's the unknown variable in the equation.

Thought I'd add a couple more
