Looking to have a rainshadow blank done up for a new bobber rod, so I'm wondering if anyone has suggestions on who to have wrap it for me. Closer to Olympia the better, but I am willing to travel a little for good work. Thanks.

I've had Greg at Greg's Custom Rods in Lake Stevens wrap four Rainshadow blanks for me in the last year or so. May be too far for you, but he does nice work. I sure like the Rainshadow blanks.

Thanks. I came across him on a google search, just hadn't heard of him before. I'm assuming, since you have had him do four rods, that he does good work?

Why not build it yourself? It really isn't that hard, and I really enjoy it. You can build most of what you need for a few bucks.

I think building for yourself is a good idea if you're looking for another hobby. I thought seriously about doing just that and Greg even offers a rod building class. For me though, I only wanted a few more rods and figured I'd just have them made and be done with it.
My favorite Rainshadow is the 1142. Mine is wrapped as a spinner and is a whole lot of fun fishing silvers in the river..

Whidbey Island Rod Company does awesome work!!!

Cause this will probably be the only "custom" rod I ever have made. Don't want to invest a lot of time/money for one rod.

What is your time frame?

Which Rainshadow blank are you considering?

Side note, 87 ford you get any fish on those jigs?

Gotcha.
If you lived closer I'd do it for beer.

George Grinstine in Olympia, he runs George's Rod and Reel repair....360-491-8398
He has been around a LONG time and does great work.

Another vote for Greg but I'm a little biased since he's in my back yard. And if you want something extra fancy his wife Marci is a real talent. Great people too.

No real rush. It is going to be primarily a salmon bobbr rod and I have other rods I can use for the remainder of this season.
Looking at the XST1325-TC

I've had George replace a rod tip that I busted off one of my Loomis rods. I didn't know he did full wrap jobs. May have to give him a call.
Thanks for all the suggestions so far guys

Not yet.. My new pup had me tied down a bit this summer. I did get out a couple times though armed with your jigs, but nothing.. I only lost one jig so I'm still well supplied for next summer and I'll likely give them a try this winter too. I did finally catch a springer on a float last spring, but I was fishing shrimp.

Hey Antlershed,
Give Don at Dons Custom Rods a call. He lives in Tacoma and is one of the most honest guys you could ever work with. He also builds beautiful rods and is a master at what he does. You will not be disappointed and he builds mostly Batson blanks

I've wrapped a few rods, turned some handles too, doesn't take that long. I would think the amount if time spent dropping off the rod and picking it up you could wrap it yourself. Make sure to follow the directions / temperature on the epoxy. I want to build a float rod on a rainshadow blank as well. Maybe on a free day this winter when the rivers are blown.

Brent I have a buddy in Rochester that wraps and builds rods. Ill message you his info.
