I am so proud and happy for my brother who never gave up after eating 20 years of tags. He has been the fisherman of the family but tried his hand at elk hunting year after year. Many of those years he could only get out opening day or weekends only. That seriously limits your chance of success but he kept on. This year it paid out!
250 yard shot across a canyon with wind gusting. His 30-06 finally bringing down some meat. This is the first big game animal he has ever shot at. He was all smiles through the rain and the 400 yard packs back and forth to the truck
Now to get him a 20 year slump buster on deer!

Nice work! Glad he could finally get it done. Now watch, he will get one every year now for a while. :chuckle: He obviously has the love of the outdoors, to show that kind of patience and persistence, and it finally paid off! His smile certainly sais it all.

Congrats to your brother! Way to stay in it. I'm pretty sure you were the guys my dad and I were watching butchering that bull from a ways off. Although it looked like one guy was doing all the work! :chuckle: My dad has never shot one either, hoping to change that soon! Congrats again!

Were you the guys to the west kicking back with a warming fire, 2 drainages over? I was 'showing' my brother the ins and outs of quartering and skinning. All in all the field dressing and packing went well. Truck was loaded and heading down the hill by 12.

That wasn't us but we did see those guys. We were up on the hill right behind you guys when you were skinning it ( about 8-900 yards off). We took off about 1 pm. Did it ever quit raining?

Congrats!

That 20 years was no doubt worth it!
I hope he doesn't have to go another 2 decades without an elk
