Well with all the big muleys and whitetails we saw over in Idaho this year we bought our second deer tags and are headed back Wednesday for round 2. The bucks were definitely staging for the rut when we were there 2 weeks ago so we are hoping for good results. Hope to be posting pics of the 180+ buck we saw on sunday or Monday when we get back.

Well second trip was great just like the first as far as animal sightings. The first morning driving into the spot we wanted to hunt we spotted a 4x4 whitetail 50 yards off the road. We both didnt shoot because we wanted the big muleys we saw thw last time over. We watched that buck for atleast 5 minutes before he slowly walked away. We continued on towards the hunting spot and boom out walks a big 2 point muley buck in the bend of the road ahead of us, we both glassed him and said dam we will have a nice buck here next year, or so we thought! About 30 seconds later the buck looked up the road around the corner from us and boom the buck limps off the road and falls over dead. An older fella around 75 popped him. We talked with them and then continued on our way. We reached our spot get out and walked about 200 yards and the old man spotted a 5x5 whitetail and couldnt pass up the 3rd buck of the day so he put him down. That was day one. The excitement continued for our buddies as well I believe they saw 7 different bucks but could not get a decent shot on one except for the last day they took a forky. I had a shot at a big 4x4 in a burn with a bunch of burnt lodgepole in it and ended up killing a tree instead of the buck, it is dam hard getting a bullet through that stuff sometimes! The last morning we finally got into the elk, I had my sights on a big 6x6 and a guy came running up to us and spooked the herd before I got a clean shot, That was a heart breaker! I think the bull was in the 320-330 range. The worse news on the trip was we talked to a guy that said he shot the biggest buck he had ever seen, he knocked him down and followed tracks all day in the snow but couldnt find him. After talking for awhile he explained to us the area and we think it was the huge buck we saw on the first trip. Overall the second trip was as good as the first if not better we saw a ton of bucks and some elk with antlers this time, even though a couple of us came home with tags it wasnt for lack of opportunity just guys being picky. will see if I can get a picture of my dads buck posted here soon.
