After work friday headed to private property hoping to get my first buck been watching two this week we shall see.
-
The wife and I are going to change things up this year and go black powder for the late season so we have a couple weeks to go yet.
-
I can't go tomorrow but I convinced my boss to give me Friday off so I'll be hitting it hard fri-sunday....good luck everyone
-
Wife has to work, soooooo
Thursday we will hunt the evening,--duck huntin in the mornin.
friday hunt the morning--got bowling league in the evening.
Sat and Sun all day if needed.
-
I'll be hunting but I haven't been "excited" to hunt anything in WA in years.
-
I'll be taking the oldest boy out Saturday and Sunday.
Not excited. I HATE late buck. Even less thrilled that I have to hunt late archery deer this year too. First year not tagging out in Sept.
-
Muzzleloading so thanksgiving day for me!

Crazy ....I love late archery ....I hardly ever hunt early season ...
-
Already have my buck but I'm taking my buddy out on Friday for one last try. Got a good feeling he'll put his first buck down!
-
I'm getting ready to hit the north part of 407 in about an hour from now!! I'll be out each day.
-
Was excited, but there are waaaaay too many people in the woods. Started the morning with an uncomfortable tweaker ecperience. I will be giving it hell, but the rut seems to be dying down where I'm at. No new rubs and didn't see a single deer this morning.
-
Exhausted after 12 straight days of unproductive elk hunting. Still, I was out today looking for deer, just couldn't find any yet. They were standing in the middle of the road staring at me during the opening weekend of elk, though.
-
Noticed there were ALOT! of people out in the woods today. I am probably taking my grandfather out Saturday and Sunday to try and find him a buck. Not looking forward to the crowds that I am expecting......
-
We hit it hard today ...covered a lot of ground and glassed a lot cuts and walked a couple miles behind this gate invested county :bash: :bash: NEVER SAW A DEER :bdid: 407 is always tuff when it comes to late season ...all the good spots I know are way out of my walking distance :bdid: But my little buddy needs a deer so we will continue on ... hopefully someone shows me a buck

I was supprised at how many people are out. I was the first truck to the gate this morning. When I got back to the truck there were 4 more. Plus there is another way into the area, and the tweaker I spoke of earlier came out of nowhere and didn't have a car. :dunno:
-
Long day today playing hide and seek with the bucks. They were hiding really good and I never did find them. Weather should be fairly nasty in my area tomorrow and I am hoping for 2 things. First that the deer keep moving into the daylight. And second that the fair weather hunters either stay home or in the truck.

I never seen one other hunter all day ...not even driving down the road ....Not many roads to drive down :chuckle:

I ended up finding two deer about 20 minutes before dark. I spent about 5.5 hrs hunting today.

Took The Day Off Tommorow. Going To.Be Out Early Rain Or.shine.

:yike: I would say :chuckle: Go North on Hwy 9 ...Lots of gates ...lace up your boots ... :chuckle:

:bash: not really I'm banging my head against the wall trying to figure out what happened to my daughters stand, all deer suddenly went nocturnal at it. The only change to it that I can tell is a family of quail moved into the brush around it :dunno:

I don't mind walkin in at all,, hate leaving my jeep sitting there tho,,, especially with the tweaker action mentioned a little earlier. I like to be able to keep a bead on it.
Funny story,, I rolled up on someone's small camp shelter during regular season,, a tarp strung up into a tent,, some gear inside,, I thought,, hey,, there's a hard core hunter there! I rolled up on the same site today,, it was trashed,, tarp gone and all the crap slung all over the place. I saw a rain jacket and noticed a lump in the pocket. I checked it out,, it was a "warrant for arrest" slip, and there was a ticket for shoplifting in it. This was way up on the mountain!
I don't have nothing in my jeep to steel,, but some thieving idiot would cut into it all the same. I don't need no tweaker head up on the trophy wall,, heard they smell bad and the teeth keep falling out,, even when mounted.

Cougar?

Late season delivered for me as usual. I didn't even hunt early season. Got to my favorite cut and glassed and glassed and glassed. After several hours I found a few does, so I knew a buck would show up before long. Mr. Two Point came into view at 300 yards. My Rem 700 spit out the 168 Berger VLD and the deer dropped in its track. I drug it to the truck (with a little help), gutted and skinned it in the bed and headed home before dark.

This could be true ...one of my spots is where I killed my cougar ...during General season I cut cougar track there again ... Smaller one ... I killed the male so there is a female and kittens in there again :bash: :bash: never saw a doe yesterday and its on some land tucked away and I know no one has been messing around back there ...usually loaded with deer ..

Headed out this evening. Making a 2 hour drive to a new to me area. Hoping to find locked gates so I can make another 3 or 4 hour hike and get rained on all night to kill the scent. :chuckle: :dunno: If all goes well Mr. Buck will poke his head out early in the AM and provide me the opportunity to smack him dead and get him packed out before night comes again.
I think I am getting to old for this but I just don't believe it yet. :hunter:

I was hunting all day on late opening, saw zipoooooo got no clue whats up in 407. All the hunters I met were in same boat.
The deer are loving the weather and are staying out of sight. :bash: :bash: :bash: :bash: going again on sat --dont feel good about this situation-- my barber said he had not heard good reports for the area.
Usually he talks to all the hunters who get cuts. :sry: :sry: :sry: :sry: :sry: :sry: :twocents: :twocents: :twocents: :twocents: :yike: :yike: :yike: :yike: :yike: :yike:

They are in there. Hunt the thick stuff or timber bordering it. We were in 407 all day yesterday jumped a couple right at light. Into deer most of the day but couldn't catch them in the timber. This morning was better. Hunt slow or slower than slow. :twocents:

Thats pretty funny, too bad it's so true.
Three of us hunt 407, and have been for the last several years. Rifle, bow and muzzy seasons. The one thing I've noticed every year, in every time period, these blacktail don't seem to be very consistent!! 'Couple of years ago we went out in a productive area after a bit of new snow (~2 in.), expected to enjoy an advantage for tracking. No dice. Covered several miles, morning and evening, and saw only one set of tracks. Seems that they hunkered down and stopped moving. Other times in that same area we would see several in a day.
My best tactic has been stubborn persistence! Kinda hard to do in a short season.

I was back at it awhile today,, it started snowing like mad,, then the hunters outnumbered the snowflakes. I hiked into the thick some. After a couple hours I was wet and frustrated, so I made the 15 minute drive home :chuckle:
I'm thinking tomorrow I'd be better off goin up and setting up a coffee stand,,, get my money back for the deer tag I'm eatin this year.
Gotta admit,, even without seeing any deer,, I had a great time! Something that really bothered me tho,, is all the trash up there. I'm no kinda tree hugger,, pretty rednecky actually,, but what's with all the trash? A full beer can is only 12 ounces,, couldn't weigh 1 ounce empty,, so why the hell people gotta pitch 'em out? Same with drink bottles. I found one turnout where I was gonna hike in some,, and when I parked,, I saw that someone emptied a whole truckload of trash. This wouldn't have cost more than $12 or so to unload at the dump,, but someone had to drive it up the mountain and unload it there. Pathetic! Gives them stanky ugly hippies a pretty good stand when trying to take hunting away from us. I was trying to understand what kinda satisfaction someone would feel by taking the burden of that empty bottle or can off themselves when they pitched it,, but I just didn't get it. :bash:
-
I tried to help my little buddy out but no luck ...we hiked our butts off this morning ...Big timber ...looked so good but not much sign ...I Guess I am off to the High School football game ....1st round of the playoffs ....GO CUBS  THEN BACK HOME IN TIME TO WATCH UFC ..... :brew: yEAH I will need a few of them too !!! :chuckle:
