Hunted my normal haunts just east of the Columbia River and in two solid days of hunting, only put up 3 hens and a small covey of quail.
These are areas that hunted much better last year.
Is it the hatch or are they hunted out?
Me and the dog are getting discouraged.

Only been out twice this year and am encountering similar results. Put some boot miles in yesterday and only one small covey of quail to show for it...5+ hours of hiking. Previous a couple weeks, were north of 90 Moses area and not a bird. We just aren't seeing numbers.

Read the posts headline and thought you were talking about deer. Weren't seeing those either...

Four trips for me this year between 26 and 12 has told me that it's the worst year I have ever seen. Keep on searching.

Went out near columbia and quincy, two different locations last saturday, same results. Spent 8 hours hiking, not one bird. Same story from other hunters...will try again this weekend

Crap, you guys are in the wrong spots. We have been seeing lots of birds, even hunted a feel free to hunt spot a couple times with good success. Aren't you guys using dogs?

Had a bit of luck in Royal City....
Some Pheasant and lots of quail, but boy do you have to log the time to find them. Mostly the Pheasant jumped early (really warm over there), and lots of hens. Hope that helps on local if you are going out next weekend. Probably saw well over 50+ birds (8 Pheasant and lots of quail). Only ended up with 8. Good luck!

That's pretty close to where I was.
PM me if you care to share.

This is my first upland year but I can tell you for sure the warm weather has negatively affected duck and goose this year

I was just out this morning to get the old dog some exercise, 45 minutes limit because 11 years is pretty old for a lab. She put up 5 in that time plus 1 that got up to far ahead. First was a pair of roosters that didn't get high enough for a safe shot. Then seconds later another pair of roosters both in range and I knocked them both down. She was only able to find 1 of them though. :dunno:
It was my fault for not marking them better and she couldn't see them because the cover she was in was too tall. One other bird got up and I couldn't tell hen or rooster.
