Options are; granola or "trail" bars, Snickers, whole apple, trailmix, PB&J sandwhich, bagel with cremecheese and sliced meat, fig newtons. I use an esbit tab to heat water for one coffee at about 2pm each day on the hunt. Need my caffeine about then... If freezing out, I may double my 2pm water and also heat up a cup of water for a dry soup mix.

I take one or two candy bars, one or two Nature Valley Granola Bars. One ham sandwich, a bag of Cheese-Its and a bag of salty trail mix. Generally, this will last me all day or until the next day if I need bivouac over night.

I read back country bow hunting by Cameron Hanes and he talks about Peanutbutter and Bacon sandwhiches for high calorie intake. They have become an every day pick me up for me on my high country hikes and hunts. I just pre make a bunch of them and then throw 2 in my pack every day along with some protein bars and and some Emer'gen-C powdered drink mix.

I also read that book, what a lot of info, and thought that sandwich sounds good. I was curios thought when backpacking , do need to worry about attracting bears? Will a zip lock bag block the smell good enough, I have of them tearing cars apart to get to the food inside.
-
I always have one of these.

I always carry home made granola, lunch meat, and trail mix. If anyone is interested in back country food, check out the book Lipsmackin' Backpackin. I got my copy at REI, and it is full lightweight, high energy meals and the ones that I have made taste great. Huntingnut, if you are worried about bears, just put your food up in a tree a short distance away from your camp. And never eat in your tent, that is a recipe for disaster in bear country.

I gave up on sandwiches b/c I always just smashed them. I went to using tortillas instead of bread and it takes a lot longer for them to get stale.

Jerky, trailmix and snickers bar(Usually a granola bar for safety sakes). If I am really celebrating life, a Mountain Dew.

I found that if you smash them on the way into the pack, that you never have to worry about smashing them later while you hunt. Works for me..... :chuckle:

Jerky, Pep sticks, snickers, granola, pop tarts. Sanwhiches are great but they take to much time in the morning.
-
Trail mix, jerky, and granola ...........maybe hard alcohol :chuckle:

Fre christ sake man, how long do you leave your sandwiches in the pack? although the tortillas sounds like a good idea.

Candy, some more candy, WATER, a Mtn House meal (chilimac with beef is good!), some jerky, and some nature valley bars will keep me most of the day... Sandwiches are to frail usually for me... I always have to have something to snack on... I hate glassing for hours without any food... I think I'm that hypoglycemic type thing or whatever... lol

Jerky, granola bars, crackers with peanut butter, and water and i can survive the day

Rice Krispy treats, a couple of tuna sandwhiches, some chips, and bottles of water or I fill my camel pack up and carry it with me.
-
We take chicken or beef broth, put it in a good quality zip lock and wrap w/ foil. Foil isnt heavy or loud to unwrap. Only had one spill so far. Just dont forget a straw.
-
I typically pack a sandwich, water, homemade brownies, chocolate chip or oatmeal cookies, banana, peanut m&m's, and granola bars. I burn a lot of calories out in the field and have found these to be great "pick-me-ups." I try to save the healthy eating for during the off season or during the days between hunts. Nothing is a better treat than some home made cookies or brownies in the field!
-
I usually pack a couple of cliff bars, an apple, sandwich, and some trail mix. Typically get back to camp with only 1 cliff bar left.
-
Jerkey, goldfish (a must for me), ham and cheese sandwich, chocolate, licorish, water.
-
peanut m&m's and a turkey sandwhich with some good horse radish on it.
