I don't think there's enough of a run on the Cowlitz to dip for smelt there anymore... it's been a lot of years since I've been.

I've been starting to wonder about smelt too....

Anybody ever try under deception pass bridge? When the tide is low, they come right up against the beach, I've seen loads of Russians hoarding that hole before, they were getting herring I think, but no reason why smelt wouldn't hit that hole too.....

I'd go on a trip.  I haven't been since I was a kid and dip netting was allowed.

All smelt runs on the Columbia are now federally protected.  They listed them as an endangered species last year.

Somebody already mentiones they are ESA listed. So off limits. But the runs the last few years have been huge.Last year I saw kids standing in the water grabbing smelt with their hands.Probably not a good idea. As they could have been cited by law enforcement.

Earlier this year they had an epic smelt run on the Cowlitz.  I know guys who were plunking and kept getting their gear towed around due to all the smelt.  THere is a guy on ifish with an underwater Go-Pro video of it.

Cornet bay

It was ok, got there about an hour before the tide switch, got a few... Enough for me to have for lunch. Only a handful of guys there, but shows if you are willing to put the time in, you will be rewarded, the "regulars" had a fair catch, but still isn't anything special
