Washelkhunter told me that the thermocouple lead needs to be replaced and I can find no one who has one for sale. Looking at the schematic, I also see the spark electrode is right there. Does anyone have experience with this? Is it worth ordering parts and replacing? Should I buy a new one? This heater is for smoking cigars out in the garage. Are there other heaters I should be looking at? Thanks guys,
PMan

Not sure what model you are running but Mr. Heater sells parts directly.

Have you ever replaced one of these parts, Lndshrk? Thanks for the link!

My gas fireplace wouldn't fire up and the word I got was "it is probably the thermocouple". I wondered how someone could come up with that without even checking what the issue really is.
Repairman called..... and it was the thermocouple. Because of how the factory originally routed things the inside of the fireplace needed to be disassembled to replace and route the thermocouple.
Yes... it's probably the thermocouple if the pilot light is hard to get to stay on and keeps going out when you try to switch it over to "on".
$104 is the approximate cost of a new thermocouple.

I have. I run the little buddy in my boat. (Salt water :yike:)
Never had any issue with thermalcouplers though.
I have had to replace the control valve and regulator.
Lots of good info in their manuals too.

Fairly simple piece of equipment.

Lighting it is not the problem. Once it's lit, it starts flaming and makes a loud noise like a wind tunnel might make.

if you have run it on a bulk tank without a filter its likely full of oil in the valves and lines. needs to be dissassembled, cleaned, reassembled and should run fine.
if youve never done that :dunno:

The only time ours have done something similar to that is when the door is open and there is a breeze.......... We always use bulk tanks and hoses......

I just called a Mr. Heater dealer and he said that the screen needs to be cleaned out or replaced - that sometimes spiders get in there and spin web and they act like mantels. I'm going to try it.

I'll see if there's a YouTube video instruction. Thanks

I think there is confusion here between the mr heater and the buddy style heaters.

So yesterday, I found the new screens at a place in Portland, along with a brush designed to clean the crap out of the tubes. I reamed out the tubes and replaced both the screens and the thing runs like a charm. As a matter of fact, the burner which was still working is now working better with the new screen. The repair cost me $30 + gas, instead of $100+ for a new heater. Nice!
Thanks everyone for your input.

My first Mr Heater had a similar problem, first time I took everything apart and cleaned it out. That worked for another deer season. Second time I got half way through taking it apart again and said to heck with this my time is worth more then what I was saving, so I caved and bought a new one for $79.
This one has been going strong for 6+ years in my deer camp tent.

Good to know. Thanks.

Yeah, mine's the dual burner, not a "Buddy" heater, just a Mr. Heater tank top.
