Title: Any breeders of smaller chocolate labs
Post by: Birdguy on December 07, 2013, 04:01:24 PM
Ok, my Dad passed away July of 2012, my Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer the same week  :bdid:. Mom had lots of problems with the treatments and was in and out of the hospital for 6 months  >:(. Mom is now doing great health wise but a little lonely. We always had dogs growing up but the old lab was put down at 15, 2 years ago. Mom has decided she is feeling good enough to get another dog to walk with and have with her around the farm. We were thinking blue heeler to help move the cows but she mentioned she thinks she would really like another chocolate lab but NOT as big as the last one. Matey was 100+lbs of total lab that Mom kept alive for 15 years, all the grandkids rode him, I hunted him till he could no longer go and he really was a great dog. Mom suprised me when she said she wanted another one but smaller than Matey, but I am all about it if that is what she wants.
So we are looking for a chocolate lab that will be 40-60 lbs all filled out. It will likely be a house/farm dog and companion for my Mom, so hunting prowess not necessary but not looking backyard mixes either. Mom plans to stay on the farm as long as she can so I hope this dog lives a long life and dies there in 12-15 years  :IBCOOL:. If something changes it will probably end up at our house with our labs. If you guys know of any that fit this bill PLEASE let me know. (I do not kow why but she only wants chocolate  :dunno:) Thanks!

Check out IrelandFarms. Warren is great and produces extremely calm dogs that have enough energy outside but settle down really nicely inside. He may have some smaller labs he is planning on breeding soon and produces many chocolates. His dogs would great FANTASTIC house and farm dogs.

X2 for Warren at Ireland Farms.  He is a sponsor on this site if you want to message him.  His handle on here is Ireland Farms.   My girl Bella is out his Whidbey dog.  Size wise she took after the male "Ben" and is about 75 pounds.  I beleive most of the female pups followed suit with Whidbey's size though.  She was around 50 pounds I believe.  On his site you will see a picture of my pups sister Stormy who is persuing her master hunter title.  She is more the size of her mother dog.  I also agree that they have a temperment that works well with being a family dog.  Nice and calm inside, but also performs nicely in the field.  Here's a link to his litters coming up this next year.

Here's a closeup of my Bella for reference giving a profile shot for the camera.  She's the one in the middle...   ;)

Thanks guys, looked at both sites, both have good looking dogs and pups. I will definitely be sharing them with my Mom. The best part is both are within an hour drive of her house .

I feel like I am a typing advertisement for Warren @ Ireland Farms tonight but I have to add in another shout out for him.  We absolutely adore our pup from Jagger x Angel.  She is 7 months now and is an amazing family dog, very calm for a puppy, extremely trainable, social, loving and patient dog.  She is loaded with personality too.  Plus, I have to say she is a rather beautiful pup...

Check out his cross with Ben x Whidbey - love Whidbey.  She is a nice sized chocolate and that pairing has some nice looking pups.
