I've been short on luck finding the critters so far. But when I do find them I plan on taking them (deer or bear is all I am going for this season) with:
Rem .30-06
Freedom Arms .50 (borrowed until I get me a nice pistol)
Stickbow

Everything but Birds....270 Winchester with custom made 140 grain ballistic tips (leathal)
For the birds and occasional Yote :chuckle:........Remington 870, 20 gauge MAG (pick your load)

I haven't decided which to use for deer this year, either the
Tikka T3 Stainless .300 wsm with 150 gr partitions at 3180 fps or the Browning Stainless Stalker 7mm-08 with 140 gr partitions at 3000 fps.
They each weigh 7 lbs fully loaded and are deadly on deer. I guess it will depend what kind of mood I'm in at the time. It's a tough decision every year.
-
I normally hunt all big game with a smoke-pole (Winchester x-150). This year I'll be doing deer with a 1960 era Ben Pearson cougar recurve, Marlin 30-30 or a custom 308 Norma Mag and the usual smoke-pole. Elk, sticking with the x-150. Majority of birds are tackled with a Benelli Nova in 12 ga.

-
Not sure, I'll have to look I inherited it from my dad. I know it's around a 1958-1962 model. Super nice gun. True story, first time I ever shot it, I shot a round of skeet and hit 22 of 22, then bagged my duck limit first time duck hunting same weekend. I'd like to take the credit, but the gun did the work.. ;)
-
I shot a round of skeet and hit 22 of 22
what happened to the other 3??
over/under? 12 or 20 gauge?
i have a over/under 20 gauge ithaca featherweight, newer than yours i assume, made by SKB. i love that gun, but it's too short for me. it's a pleasure to carry in the field.

Since this is my first time in 12 or so years that I haven't hunted with a bow. I am determined to shoot a booner buck (whitie or mulie) with my 40 year old Stevens Model-B Fox 12 gauge side by side or my 30-30. I will hunt all early season with a shotgun and save the old 30-30 until late buck. I'm gonna show up my buddies who can't seem to get the job done even with their magnums. :P I'm still on the fence about what I will use for elk. I have hunted elk with a bow for 25 years or so and not once with a rifle. Maybe it is time to try it. Maybe with a shotgun? :chuckle:
-
Polarbear, A shotgun with slugs and a scope would be a great choice in some of those firearm restriction areas (or anywhere actually.)
As for me, I will be hunting elk in the Toutle unit with a T/C Black Diamond XR 50 caliber muzzleloader, shooting 360 grain Precision Rifle bullets.
For my elk hunt in Oregon I will be using my Browning A-Bolt in 270 Winchester and most likely will be shooting 140 grain Barnes TSX bullets. Either that or 160 grain Nosler Partitions.
For deer I will be using the same 270, and I'll probably load up with 150 Nosler Ballistic Tips, since those are the most accurate loads I've found so far.
I don't think I'll have time to do any bird hunting this year, but if I do I'll be using one of three shotguns:
1. Remington 870 Express 12 gauge
2. Remington 1100 Lt-20 20 gauge
3. Beretta over/under 12 gauge
-
For deer I will be using a m70 featherwieght 270wsm and a Marlin 1895 45-70.
For elk I will be using a m70 featherwieght in 338-06.
For birds I will be using my ruger red label o/u 28ga and my 1100 Lt. 20ga

Zen, Savage 24S-E, .22cal rifle over 20guage shotgun. There may be no better grouse getter out there. If the birdie is giving me the chance, I will hit him with the .22, or the 20 if I feel he may get ready to bust. Fantastic shotgun.

Having sold most of the Battery for epic vacations....
Grandpa's WWII era Savage 219 A 26 inch barrel single shot break-apart 30-30. I also have a 20GA barrel for it. It has a couple problems so it just sits on the dresser.
For Deer and as an Arctic camp companion my Marlin 1895 LTD III 45-70. 18 inch Barrell, full length magazine (5 rds) My pride and joy. It's a Limited but I altered it anyway: Pachmyer recoil pad, Wolffe over power Mag spring. The folks at Wild West Guns in Anchorage supplied an anodized aluminum follower, 1 piece heavy duty Bear Proof ejector and their Happy Trigger/Sear kit. Nikon 2-7x30 Scope.
I can't say enough about their trigger/sear kits. Well it was built by a Shooter not a Lawyer, how about that?
This winter there will most likely be a new 870 for next springs Turkey Season.
