just got my first muzzleloader...a .50 cal cva magnum bolthunter, and am looking to upgrade sights. i was curious to hear what you guys are using and how it is working out for you. i figured i would go with a williams peep, and have heard of people drilling them out to 1/8". i would rather hear some other opinions before i buy the williams.
what would i do for a front post...leave the original on there and try it out for now and see how it works?
anybody use a crosshair type rear sight?

Congratulations on the purchase and welcome to the world of smoke!
I replaced my Umberti’s sights with fiber optic only because I can not keep both the front and rear in focus at the same time anymore. 10 years ago that wasn’t a problem. The glowing rear dots still aren’t in focus but I can see them better while focusing on the front sight.
I should go to a peep but I just can’t get use to them.

Jack, I put a Ghost ring peep on my ML. I love it, might try that.

thanks...

Love the peep sights

I use Williams on mine. Get the target model where you can change out the aperture. For the front sight I stayed with the fiber optic. Seems to be a good combo for me.
Is this your first go eound with muzzys? If so you youre going to love it. If I can be of any help let me know.

Im also looking at new sights for my TC Hawken 50.
I had the sights replaced with some truglo's a couple years ago. I like the sight but hate the adjustment by set screw. This sucks and is hard to sight in.
What I really want is a true "click adjust" like the TC fiber optics but I like the Williams rears better. They make one for the OCTO barrell but they seem to not be a "click" adjust either?
Anybody have any experience with these?

yes...first run in. i've shot them a few times, but never had one of my own.
i figure i will need one when i get my multiseason tag next year.

I have the williams peep. Left the front site the same although I had to changed out the ramp up front to get the right amount of elevation gain I needed.

Jack.... let us know how things go. Real interested in what you experience. I just bought a Black Diamond and I'm thinking of going peep too.
One think I've noticed in the brief time I've been shooting it, is that the red front site doesn't seem as visible.... at least to my eye. I may end up changing the fiber color to green.
Anyone else had that experience?

Where do you get those? Who is the manufacturer... or is Ghost the maker?

I did when I firt started shooting mine with the truglo's. Since getting used to them I now try to concentrete on the target and the red sight. Instead of lining up the red between the green's, Im using the "V" between the greens on the back sight and lowering until the red just touches the rear sights bottom of the "V" with the bottom of the red. This gives me much more pinpoint accuracy.
At 25 and 50 yrds Im within an inch, 100 and Im about 4" high and rt. Thats with a TC Hawken 50, 100 grns of Americam Pioneer and a 260 grn sabot. Its really hard though at 100 with a white and orange target. It kind of all blends so Im aiming center of mass.
I hate the no click adjustment and am going to change to the TC fiber glo with click adjustment.
Not allot of options with octo pipes.
I do like the ghost sight with fiber glo that Williams has.

I changed the sights out on my Bighorn to the Truglos. They actually reverse the colors from the factory which makes a lot less blur at the long distance shots...

I have nothing but good things to say about the Williams Peep. I switched last year and absolutely love it.
