Well I thought I better post my Dink buck from this year. Buck hunting was pretty tough this year with only a couple days of descent rain. I did pass on a nice mature buck the first week of season that I kick myself for passing on. We was very tall with big main forks , dead buck till he stopped and looked at me. Dang thing was only about 13 wide but 14 - 15 tall with about a 10 inch main fork. Not sure how many points but at least a 3 on the right. Big swelled neck and on a doe. Well that was the first rain .
I didnt get the time to hunt like I usually get since we had our first child this past march so guess what, I cant just head out the door to go hunting anymore :'(. I did end up seeing a bunch of deer but did get out of my normal hunting tactics and hit the clearcuts more this year, I hate clear cuts. The thicker the brush the bigger the buck as far as Im concerned.
Anyway , I had told my wife before buck season started I wanted to call in my buck this year. I did do alot of rattling and estress calls this year eith a few grunts. I called in a few little bucks but nothing nice that I saw. Well on the last day of season we finally had a good rain. I saw a total of 17 deer but nary a bug buck pushin. I just used up all my luck on my bull this year :chuckle: Anyway I was so wet on this day that my boots were filling up with water. Pants sticking to my legs, couldnt hardly move or pick up my feet. Talk about miserable! On the way out at 1:00 I hit a little reproad patch that you cant hardly see into. Always deer in there. I started grunting. went a few steps and grunted again, now I hear twigs breaking. Ya I knew what was happening, he was comming , and out he popped a little Dink by Dink! Last day for me so BLAMO! Dink buck Down !
Well looks like I filled all my goals this year, killed my big bull and called in my buck :chuckle: Cant wait till next year already!

Nice work Charlie! Now that's a true monster!!! :chuckle:
-
Great job on your goals..................nice buck and good eats. :cue:
-
I was hoping you wouldn't trump that big elk of yours by shooting a record book blackie. I am having a hard enough time finding a buck that will beat that elk. :chuckle: Just kidding. Congrats on notching the tag and meeting your goals.
-
nice work on calling one in. he will eat alot better than a tag :chuckle: congrats
-
Yeah, I am trying to research what seasoning I want to use on mine. I think I will take his marinating it in Coke idea and try that. :) In the old days the tags were a bit more substantial and chewy. They are cut pretty thin now.

Grats to that Charlie. I would have shot him too. ;)
-
Go a year without one, and he won't look so dinky :P
-
Nice job - dink buck! I only say that becuase you've cut your teeth on enough good bucks to warrant a jab in the ribs. Nothing beats calling in game so for me, a fork called in is better than a 3 pt at 150 yds in a clear cut!
-
Nice little forky. Do you think I will have a good shot at calling one in the late bow season. I heard rattling is best in pre rut but grunting and a bleet should be good in the late bow right??
-
Nice Forky
-
good job , i just finished dinner my dink buck from oregon sure tastes good.
-
man charlie, i know you don't need meat after your elk. :nono: let them dinks go so they can grow. especially since he made it to the last day of the season :bdid:
just kidding :chuckle: i would have shot him opening morning :chuckle: congrats again

Cant wait to get my pepperoni and summer sausage back! MMMMMMMMM!
-
Congrats on the buck Charlie. Atleast your dink is bigger than mine, lol.
-
nice one...he's putting meat on the table for sure.
-
That's a symmetrical big bodied forked horn, congrats. Should be alot better eatin than that old senile bull ya got ;)
-
Poor Dink. I remember just last month watching him frolic around in the reprod. Then a grunt and dead Dink. :EAT: He looks pretty tasty. Congrats.
-
Actually that bull tastes real good! That little forky was 150 on the hoof and 115 dressed. Its about half the size body wise as the bucks I usually shoot :)
-
Good for you, I hope I can pull the double. Reverse from yours of corse. I got the small elk now gonna hunt for a big rack.
-
I just got done eating some of this years forky steaks, and its 100X better then my last years 3pt.
-
Fess up neighbor.... Did you shoot him in my pasture? I am missing one just like him. ;)

Oh, that's what all the red stuff was on my sign. I just thought that some hippie hit it with a paintball gun. You did a great job of cleaning up the gut pile. Thanks and congrats!

Still chewy though. Remember to cut with the grain not against it. :chuckle: Also a little rum in that coke marinade will make it go down easier.
