Title: WT Success!
Post by: novice870 on November 08, 2008, 03:17:03 PM: I just have to share. Took my son up to the Colville area yesterday and we had success rattling in this buck. My son was next to me in the ground blind to see the whole thing. He got up at 3am to make the long drive with me, then sat in the rain/snow, and handled the whole thing like a man...I am so proud of him. We got home soggy, bloody, and cold, but soooo excited. This hunt was so much more special becuase he was there with me.

The buck is a 5x4 (9 point) and is 18" wide. My first WT buck and first late season attempt. I am hooked now though.

I too sat there wet and cold and got to see my dad take a huge 2 x 3 blacktail. I have not missed a season with him since then. 22 years. And everyone has some moments ill remember for the rest of my life. Thanks for taking your son out! And one hell of a buck! I didnt see squat when I was there!

Teacherman: I rattled "blind" once at 9:30am...loud and quick. I waited for about 10 minutes and did it again. I saw a couple does about 5 minutes later and then my buck following the does. They were about 350 yards away and then disappeared into the trees. I thought, "Nothin to loose!" So I rattled again but softer. Five minutes later the buck appeared by himself on the edge of the field. That's when I shot him. No grunt or bleat calling.

I was on public land.

He is by far the biggest bodied deer I have ever shot...but I didn't get him on a scale.
