We'll I don't usually post on here but this story is crazy enough that I have to share it.
At 3:30 this morning the wife and I were woke up by a really annoying whine and naturally we assumed the mother in law's beagle found her way back to our door, so the wife gets out of bed to let her in but when she gets to the back door instead of a little beagle she finds about a 120 pound cougar on top of our lab. So naturally after hearing the Screaming from my wife COUGAR! And it has Shea (our lab) I managed to find the 9mm, loaded it go to the back door and sure enough this kitty thinks he is eating Labrador for breakfast but not on my watch. So I throw open the door and take aim ( from inside the house of coarse because I'm not that brave) and click crap must have been a bad round so re cock, take aim and click CRAP!! Now mad, nervous, and about to wet my self I realize the clip was not locked all the way in so I give it a smack re cock take aim and bam. Good news the cat drops the dog and the dog runs off, bad news now the pissed off and hurt cat is 25 feet away looking at me, so I took real careful aim and was able to put the second round in the forehead dropping the cat for good. So I call the game dept. and they come do there investigation and take the cat, I asked the officer if I could keep the cat since I had a cougar tag and he said the biologist would call me and let me know, but much to my pleasure he called me a few hours later and told me I could come get my cat. The dog is fine a few stitches and a drain tube. What a crazy day!

Wow! Crazy story. What town if you don't mind me asking?
-
Nice job on another deer killer down!
How did you train that Beagle to run cats to your door? :chuckle:
-
WOW!!!! Good job!!! Saved the dog and got the cat!!!
-
Got my heart rate up just reading that. I was very glad to read that your dog will be OK. Good job!
-
Nice shooting!
Congrats on saving your dog and filling your cougar tag
-
Wow, crazy!
-
Good job.
All the more reason to keep the gun loaded in the future? :dunno:
-
Awesome
-
That's so intense! Glad it turned out ok. Looks like a big cat too. Never had to use this but was taught by a police officer that if your gun doesn't fires you always "tap then rack".
-
Good job.
All the more reason to keep the gun loaded in the future? :dunno:
:yeah: :yeah:

Nice work! Congrats...

That's a crazy story and nice cat

WOW! Crazy story! Good shooting. Where did this happen?
-
Wow right on way to save the family dog and lots of other critters!
-
glad your dog made it.
That's my favorite way to see a cougar ..ventilated
-
Cool story and congrats on the cat. Good to hear the dog was not severly hurt
-
It was near Wenatchee, and as far as keeping the gun loaded, this is not my self defense gun and I don't shoot it very often so with two young kids in the house loaded all times isn't going to happen.
Here's another pic to give u an idea of how close he was
-
Nice work! Congrats...
:yeah:
-
That's one heck of a way to fill your cougar tag! Glad the dog is safe
-
sorry to hear about your dog. Thats pretty cool that wdfw allowed you to keep the cat! Sounds like you had an interesting morning!
-
Glad you got him!
-

-
Did the beagle ever come back? Hope the cat didn't get him. Had beagles when I lived in NY. Great little dogs.
-
There's a man who protects his family. Well done!

Wow CRAZY story for sure but not the first time I've heard it.My buddy shot at one that was leaving nose marks on his windows of the upstairs balcony after chasing a neighborhood cat up there. He missed though with a full clip,it jumped off the balcony and ran through his yard.
Iceman my coworker got a pretty good scare one night with having a preloaded, good to go .38.It went off on its own in the middle of the night and shot a hole through the bedroom wall that went through the shower on the other side and right on outside the house.Woke him up from a dead sleep.Only logical explanation that I could come up with is a proud primer with weak/thin metal and the heat was just right to allow the hammer tension to set it off.I informed him the way to go is resting on an empty cylinder.
Good job.
All the more reason to keep the gun loaded in the future? :dunno:

I though baiting cougars was illegal :chuckle:
Good to hear all is ok and nice cougar
-
Cool story, Good to hear your lab is going to be O.K. . Hope he won't be to traumitized by "cats" in the future. I would definity have a dog bed made out of that cat for sure! :chuckle:
-
Not the way you want to fill your tag in the future! Thanks for sharing! Bet the dog gets a nice couch cushion tonight! ;)
-
WoW what a way to get woke up in the middle of the nite. Glad everything turned out okay for the dog and glad you got to fill your tag.
-
Good job
However, you should have let F&G take that cougar, kept your tag, and gone hunting after another
-
Crazy story! Nice shooting :)
I have 8 kids, but keep my pistol loaded and ready in a nightstand safe - can open and be shooting in just a few seconds if needed. I also have a 12 guage in the closet rifle safe loaded with home defense rounds - but not fully chambered. Got be able to let the perp here the pumping action just before I drop him :chuckle: Actually, our agreed to process is - I go for the pistol and head toward the threat, my wife heads to the closet and stays there with the shotgun until I give the all clear.
-
Nice shooting, some good eats there as well.
-
:yeah: :yeah: :yeah:
-
Good job! And some good shooting!
-
The 9mm was a carbine not a pistol, only type of rifle I have without a scope. Great accuracy and fun to shoot, since I knew the cat had the dog I wasn't going to spray lead with the pistol since I didn't know how close they were when I was getting armed. I agree with having a self defense weapon loaded at all times since an unloaded firearm is just a really expensive rock, but it was not my preference for this situation, looking back there is not much I would have done different accept maybe turn the porch light on and smack the clip harder when initially loading
-
Glad your dog is ok. Hope the wife didn't panic too much  great job with the shot placement.
-
Great job man.
-
sorry to hear about your dog. Thats pretty cool that wdfw allowed you to keep the cat! Sounds like you had an interesting morning!
:yeah: props to wdfw for that
-
Filled your tag on your back porch?cant get any better.congrats
-
Nice job!
-
THAT IS CRAZY!!!!!! Great Job
-
I was expecting to see a picture of a small cat, was that thing really only 120lbs?? Looks like a good one to me... But maybe I'm just used to all the guys calling their 120lb cats, 200lbers! Nice shooting that's awesome you saved the dog and got a great looking lion out of it.
-
Nicely done. Im a little confused as to why everyone is saying it is awesome they "LET" you keep it. You said you had a tag and you shot it during a season, why would they have the ability not to let you keep it?
-
That is a crazy story. That will make a great conversation piece on the wall. Glad the dog is okay. I bet he was glad to see you.
-
Pretty crazy stuff man. Glad to hear there is more less in the wenatchee area
-
I wonder how many cougars have been killed with a 9mm? I bet not many.
-
Wow........Crazy
You must be a skinny dude if that is only a 120 lb cat
-
WILD!!! Well done.. Way cool you get to keep the cat. I thought the same thing, it sure looks bigger than 120 dead and I'm sure it even looked bigger over the top of a handgun. Glad the Lab made it, a friends Lab wasn't so fortunate with its cat encounter.
-
9mm carbine
-
Nicely done. Im a little confused as to why everyone is saying it is awesome they "LET" you keep it. You said you had a tag and you shot it during a season, why would they have the ability not to let you keep it?
Cougars are considered big game so cannot be hunted at night or with artificial light

Great job....
