I'm new to Washington, just recently moved from Louisiana. I've been hunting the carnation, monroe and Everett public land areas without having much success. Ones twos or threes sometimes. Any recommendations on some new spots I could try would be helpful. I do have leased farmland in carnation but it seems the birds just don't want anything to do with it being that it hasn't held any water yet this year. Where are some good spots to hunt that hold a lot of birds because I just haven't seen the numbers since I've been here. thanks for any help in advance.

Better read the new guy info thread. :hello:

Best bet is probably private land. There aren't any other public areas around here I can think of but those areas are hit and miss a lot of the time. I'm from Duvall and have kinda had the same issue with only a couple private spots and a spotty season.

Take the time for the rest of the season to be scouting new areas. You already have a one up on a lot of people by having secured some private land. Use your contact there for references to other landowners. Just because your land isn't providing right now doesn't mean it won't next season. Nobody on here is going to tell you which roads to take to drive to a place that you will get a limit in 20 minutes. I'm in the same boat, only been hunting two years and am really still learning everything about the sport let alone finding places to go so I end up on public land that doesn't see much activity. But each time out with no reward of ducks is another learning experience for me. Also, you could jump on the open seat thread and offer to pay fuel, breakfast, etc. then somebody might wanna share a spot with you.

just wait for january on the fields. thats when you can expect them to flood

thanks for the tips...hopefully soon this farmland will flood a little...it would suck to pay all this money for a lease and then not have it produce with birds.

from what I can tell ...EVERYWHERE :yeah: I seen mass birds flying today ...just do not duck hunt much ...I should be out with our new dog but just to lazy :chuckle:

Look for some areas along the snoqualmie river? Maybe even float it in a green raft and jump shootem.?

This has been an unusually dry fall, and now winter. In a normal year you may have already had good hunting on your lease. I don't know if this dry weather is going to continue, but unless something changes soon, I wouldn't count on any flooded fields.
Your best bet might be like others have said- float some rivers. Especially if it gets cold again and freezes up the majority of the little bit of standing water that we do have.
Also expect to see a lot more ducks the last week of the season. That's when they really seem to show up, but even more so in February and March. :bash:

They really do need to extend the season due to global warming and all. Anymore February is when we finally get the weather to bring the true northerners down :twocents:
