I've been looking over my bone collection. Figuring out which ones to keep and which ones to make into something. I was asking myself; do I prefer a perfect symmetrical typical or a narly lopsided non-typical? I know what I prefer (other than meat in the freezer. ..). I would like to know what you prefer. Thank you in advance
(Note: I added an "other" option....)
-
Typical no matter the species. Just not a fan of a bunch of trash. I would take a smaller typical over a bigger trash heap. :chuckle:
-
Trashy non typical all day long. Does not matter what type of deer
-
Love a big typical!!
-
When I dream of my "perfect deer" it has always been a wide and tall typical mule deer feeding up hill in the snow  ....
-
:yeah:
-
Love them all big or small.
-
My goal in the next few years is to take a big 5x5 main-beam whitetail with tall eyeguards and symmetry to the 9's.
I wouldn't ever pass up a non-typical though.
-
All I want is Meat. :cue: it doesn't matter to me but important is that I have meat in freezer.

You don't see a difference in a doe and a tall 4x4 chocolate-racked mule deer buck? Some peoples' kids...
:o

Dark chocolate typical 6x6 Roosevelt elk sticking up through the ferns in the rain.
-
If its just these options I have to pick non-typ mulie. If its any I love super symmetrical big elk.
-
Just like Confederate Railroad, I like my bucks a little on the trashy side.... :P

For me I prefer a buck with mass or even palmation thus it would not probably be a high scoring buck
-
I agree with sky, mass does it for me. And I love character, so non typical bucks really stand out to me.
-
I really like mass.
-
i voted other, because to me it dont get much better than a big ole pig of a blacktail buck, bedded down in some nasty old patch of ferns and wind swept vinemaple, and i big black eye looking at you from a couple feet away, and then a mess of antlers making one bound and then all is silent, and the gray ghost is never to be seen again :bash: :bash: :chuckle:, i also really like the looks of those european red stags

Mass and character, or typical, or an animal that I know well, or an animal that comes from a tough/fun/memorable hunt...

:yeah: BLACKTAIL
-
Any of them as long as they have MASS
-
I also really love mass.

Mmmmmmm.....Red Stag...I'm like homer to a doughnut about Red Stag. I WILL have one before I die!
-
I am also in the MASS club, but am a sucker for stickers and drop tines...
-
A big old typical with tons of mass!

A really dark blacktail rack with nice mass is perfect for me. Hopefully, one day I will get to shoot one but for now I would be delighted to get a little spike blacktail. A gray ghost buck with antlers of any kind is an amazing accomplishment.
-
I think a big ol' typical is one of the most elusive to find therfore making him the king and on top of the list.
-
Trashy mule deer .
-
Picked other . Blacktail......
-
Beastly typical Mule deer. Tall and wide. Symmetric. Dark and thick is king. Maybe a little trash on the lower mains for some character.

Anything that I think "wow" when I see it. I mostly hunt mule deer and have several typical ones already. My wife shot a smaller racked buck with a double main beam that I would have shot in a heartbeat just because it was different so my vote is non-typical mule deer.
-
I'm definitely a MASS man!
-
Trashy, tall basket racks, and mass love those massive racks.....
-
Any Typical with MASS!
-
what about the type that stand on two legs and yell at their poor hubbys :'( :chuckle:
-
Big 4x4 black tail with tall eye guards. Dark, and heavy
-
Cant beat a big heavy wt in my opinion
-
Im a mass man...................Id take war clubs over long tall skinny wide anyday, no matter the specie.
-
This was a really hard poll and I go back and forth on it.
If there were six bucks, two whitetail, two blacktail, and two mule deer (typ and non typ of each species) and they all scored P&Y minimums +/- 5 points, I think I'd actually go for the typical blacktail but man it would be a tough one.
I chose typical whitetail but most mature whitetails are trashy where I hunt and every night I see phantasms of heavy, stickery ghosts of mountain whitetail and I've got my eye on a 24" wide monster for next year.
People who say antlers don't matter probably haven't seen a 140+ buck up close in the wild. Meat is important but if you think you've got a snowball's chance in h3ll of taking a specific mature buck, it doesn't even occur to most to take that scrawny little forkhorn. :twocents:

There is just something about a large Typical Muley that grabs me. IMO there is nothing better.
-
Some people dig typical and some prefer trash but I think there is one universally appreciated trait...mass.
Mass is the one characteristic that can only be earned through years of survival. Younger bucks can be tall, wide, and loaded with tines but mass is exclusive to older bucks and maybe that's why we all like it.
-
Tall, deep forked 3x3 mulie. Best there is.
-
To me, nothing better than a classic looking mule deer rack. No matter how many points, I just love those classic traits.
-
I like them all ...but a huge dark blacktail rack is hard to beat as far as lucks ...They are all unique in their own way !
-
I'm a "trash heap" kinda guy BUT the "Hanson buck" (world record typical whitetail from Saskatchewan, 1993) is VERY handsome to me. Look it up. I love this buck.
-

:yeah:
With my tag on it, I voted for Blacktail. I already have a nice 4X4 blacktail mounted. :twocents:
-
the heavy dark, alder rubbed blacktail antlers. Non-typical too.
-
I like them all
-
A tall wide heavy blacktail, the darker the antlers the better. Hardest buck there is to get.
-
Looks like, in presidential terms, its too close to call! Except for species! You people looove your mule deer. Thanks again for voting and for your input. Merry Christmas
-
Dark and heavy coastal blacktails, all way.
-
Tough one. I selected NT mulie, but I could go back and forth between typical and non typical mulies depending on what day of the week it is. Never shot one with much trash (an extra point or a bump here or there, nothing I would call NT), would be nice to put one of those up on the wall...
