Title: Bino straps
Post by: gutsnthegrass on January 02, 2014, 02:27:50 PM: I have been using the crooked horn straps for a long time now to get the weight off my neck. I just picked up some new Vortex bino's and was wondering what you guys recommend for the new glass? I would like something that keeps the bino's enclosed when not in use to keep the weather out of them.

Post by: Eli346 on January 02, 2014, 02:35:30 PM: I just use something called a 'BinoBuddy'. It's less than $20 and cover your binos from the elements. It's not waterproof but I sprayed mine down with a light waterproof spray (I forget which one) and it works well. If it gets too nasty I'll leave the straps the way I normally carry them and tuck them inside my coat through the front opening. I also like the 'buddies' because of the zippered compartment on the front that I keep lens wipes, lens pen, and also a couple of lens cloths in. I've been using it for years and it works great. No drawbacks as far as I'm concerned.

If you're looking for an enclose harness like you stated, look at models made by Badlands, Sitka, Crooked Horn, and Alaskan Guide Creations. I've used them all, and prefer the Sitka, with the Badlands coming in second. :twocents:

Same thing I use, works fantastic. Can be alittle bulky at times but its worth it if you have quality glass.

You can keep your bumps in the mouch to keep them protected or attach them directly to the harness for quick access. They are made in washington and a green company. Great customer service . Your welcome to check mine out if interested sometime. I have a new lockdown harness too if your interested.

I use a BinoHide with the Nimrod harness. But mostly, I don't like the bounce I get from binos on my chest, so I now use a Nimrod pouch on my pack's waist belt. No bouncing. Weight is on my hips. Easy access. I put a tether from the Swaros to the pouch that is just long enough to glass with, but keeps the binos from hitting the ground if I drop them.

I've had really good customer service from Jaret at Alaska Guide Creations and Nimrod.

I have used other types and have seen some of the others mentioned here and for me Kuiu has them beat. Your glasses are enclosed and protected but easy to get out and zero bounce. It is a little bulky but not nearly as bulky as the badlands setup. I have zeiss rangefinder binos so they are kind of heavy and bulky anyways so it doesnt bother me and I have to have the xl size so the large would be a little less bulky Im sure. I waited almost 4 months to get mine as they are very popular and behind in production so if you want some I would get them ordered up soon. I hunted all fall with my binos tucked in my shirt and coat waiting for the Kuiu setup and it was worth the wait. nwhunter

Have the nimrod set up too. Wish the harness attached to the pouch different. With just the two connection points at the top of pouch, it can still flop around a little.
I'm just picky. Nimrod has cool gear though

I am using a badlands superday and don't really like the reduncancy of a chest harness for binos..... any thoughts??

not sure you want your binos on your backpack straps. Seems like they would shift around too much. Plus i ditch my pack if doing a sneak, but still need binos.

Timberhawk packs have a built in bino harness. No good. If you take your pack off, so goes your bino's.
