Has anyone built a 6.5 X 270wsm and worked any load data up. looking for a starting point.
Thanks Hot Rod Willy :4w:

You can use 6.5-.300 WSM load data straight up for the 6.5-.270 WSM. Seeing that the case capacity for both the .270 WSM and .300 WSM are the same after being necked down to 6.5.
Here's a starting point, you will find much more info out there load data wise doing a search for "6.5-.300 WSM" than you will "6.5-.270 WSM".

You could start with minimum 264 Win Mag loads and carefully work up. Your max charge will likely be lower than the charge listed for the 264 WM.

Thanks BiggerHammer. Andrew the case capacities are different between the two i know there is data out there for this wildcat, long range shooters have started shooting this. This is my first Rifle build it is built on a rem 700 long action so i can shoot the 130 and the 140 vld.

The 6.5 WSM has a case volume of 77.5gr water. The 264 Win Mag is 79.2. That's a 2.2% difference. Using proven, pressure tested load data from the 264 WM and working up is a safer option than pulling data from the internet :twocents:
I've spent a bit of time with both the 6.5/300 WSM and the 6.5/7mm WSM. My loads were from 19" Nitrided handgun barrels though, so they just wouldn't translate to untreated rifle barrels.

Just search for 6.5-06 loads. You'll find around 57 grains of imr 4831 shoves a 142 smk about 2900-3000 fps.

Ya I was looking at the 270 win :bash: I think im going to start with around 60 gr of Retumbo with 140 VLD and work up in .5gr increments might try some RE-25 at around 55gr and 140VLD maybe some RE-22 at around 50gr with 140 VLD. If i decide to go with 130gr VLD looks like H-1000, RE-25, and RE-22 will be the direction I go.

With that 26" barrel your going to be swinging, I would opt for the 130gr Berger and the increased speed for those Rockchucks this spring. Nothing wrong with flat and fast! Maybe throw in a handful of 95gr V-Max's for some serious Apollo Moon Launches!

You may want to be careful with 50gr of RL-22 and a 140gr bullet. That's right at 75% load density. That's a pretty lite charge and will leave a lot of empty space in the case. An under charge can be just as dangerous as an over charge. You may want to start a little closer to 54gr.
I don't know your reloading experience, so I apologize if anything I say hits you the wrong way. But as I said, I've played with this chambering before. IMR 7828ssc, RL-22, and RL-25 would be good powders in a rifle barrel. H4831 was my best performer in the shorter barrels.

I'm going to lean more in the way of RE-25because of availability or retumbo I already shoot retumbo in my 25-06 I trying the RE-25 in my 300h&h but it is way better with good old 4831

the 300's like rl19 , while the 6.5 really seems to like r17. what barrel length are you running in your 6.5x270wsm

It will be a 26" finished length with a break 1-9" twist. I shoot 180gr combined tech in my 300 H&H. It shoots deer kill groups at 300yds It is a 1951 original Model 70 Winchester. I'm happy with it.
