I picked up a new pair of Zeiss Terra binos for myself today since I've been a good boy all year. Never owned a quality pair of glass. :IBCOOL:
-
Very cool. What power?
-
10x42
-
Good binos. I really like mine. clearer than my leopolds during the day. Down side is they do not seem to gather light as well so during dusk they are not that great.
-
Hmmm
-
Do you think there are better binos in the same price range?
-
Never owned a quality pair of glass. :IBCOOL:
You still don't. :chuckle:

I was just ribbing you...
I am sure they will be good bino's, the conquests are very nice too, that said I have owned several brands of bino's but I will never own anything else than Swaro's now after having them for several years.
-
Those weren't in the budget.
-
You have 8 months to save :dunno: before season :twocents:
-
My season never ends. Finish with deer season then start shooting 3-d shoots then scouting starts. I don't have an off season

D- rock, you did good with those binos. Best glass in the industry. When you've been in business since 1847 you must be doing something right. All the top name brands are good now a days (zeiss, Swarovski, Leica) it's mostly a matter of personal preference. Swaros are not better than Zeiss as a whole and in the price range there is not a better set of glass than what you purchased.
I have the Conquest HD's in 10X42 and they are awesome. There's so much that goes into the development of the Zeiss glass that 99.9% of the people out there don't know. For example Leica buys all of their lenses for their binos from Zeiss and so do other major players. They just don't have the patented finishing components to them that Zeiss does which ultimately makes Zeiss better.
Regarding the comments about the Swaros being better at gathering light in low light conditions..that's the first I've heard of that.
I would say you did well with your purchase and you do have the highest quality glass available in the price range.

when you're as good as me you don't need a quality bow. I just simply get it done better than most with less bow.
-
Wait a minite - you bought yourself a new pair of binos because you've been a "good boy" all year? So you've been good for four days!
Ha ha! Just kidding. Congrats on your new binos. You'll love them for sure.
-
Yeah that's right. I was wondering who would catch on.
-
i know they arent zeiss or swaros but i have steiners, they are amazing for the price, they gather light in the worst conditions and seem to be pretty much bullet proof :chuckle: i have used a few pairs of the higher end binos and there just wasnt enough differance to spend the extra cash, having said that i did look through a buddies 2500.00 dollar swaros and holy sheet, they are awesome  but i will never have that kind of extra coin, well not until the kids move out :chuckle:, congrats on the new toy, a mans gotta love buying gifts, especially when they are for themselves  :chuckle:
-
My wife has Zeiss and they are clearer then any other binos in our hunting group. I have Steiners that were a few hundred dollars more then her Zeiss and hers are still clearer. One bonus is that they aint made in China.

The Terra line is made in China I believe :dunno:

D Rock, what'd they cost? if you dont mind me asking. Been thinking of picking up the Cabelas Euro HD's as I cant tell the difference between them and a pair a Swaro's, and theyre 60% cheaper. The down side to the Euros is the weight though.

I was in the same boat and ended up with vortex razor hd. I looked at them and leica side by side and couldn't tell a difference. Didn't compare with swaro because I knew I would have to have them... lol. The razor hd are very light. Compared to most.
I'm curious on the cost for the zeiss as well. My vortex were 1200. I wish they had 12x50s when I bought but all they had were 10x42. So I got a spotter later.

You should've spent your money on a more masculine firearm instead. :twocents:
Give that 7mm-08 to your daughter.

new gun is coming soon. I got a check list for the year one thing at a time.

You did really hate my other binos. I got new ones just to please you.
-
Your old ones could've been replaced by a thick drinking glass.

you need to stop this d-rock is a good guy
nice binos

Hard to beat for the money. Although you could have Swaros for about the price of those backward Hoyts :chuckle:
The budget Zeiss is very under rated IMO. Rifle scopes too! I don't really care where they are made. I think Nikon's EDG is orient glass and it nips on Swaro's heals as best in the business. Only thing I didn't like about the Zeiss was the way it fit my hands. But then again, as with bow grips, my odd thumbs cause problems many others don't experience. Had they fit comfortably I'd own a pair too.
I'd say you done very good  And just think what you could get if you were a good boy during a 365 day year ;)

If radsav approves I did well :IBCOOL:.

If radsav approves I did well :IBCOOL:.
Now you can take all that money you saved on glass and buy an Experience :o
...Or an Xpedition Xcentric! For a short brace bow that thing shot SWEET! I always like it when I get to blow up arrows at the show. Then hand the bow back to them and say, "Eh, it shoots ok" :chuckle:

one step at a time radsav. If I were ever to put down my hoyt for another right now it would probably be a prime.

:chuckle: 2014 Prime lineup looks nice. Wish I had been given a chance to shoot them at the show. Couldn't get myself to buy one though.
-
Used the bino at a few 3-D shoots no complaints so far besides the wife found out I bought them :yike:
-
Make sure your wife doesn't have a garage sale when your not home? There was a thread where the wife sold hubbies quality glass for $50!!!!!!! :chuckle:

I am also trying to make my mind up between the same Zeiss, Euro's or the Vortex Talon's... Any advice?
-
I would choose the vipers over the talons if I was going with vortex. Don't know about the Zeiss euros. But the terras I got have been nice so far.
-
Zeiss was the first pair of high end optics that I looked through when I was considering a move up from the mid range. It was in bright day light but I was immediately impressed with end to end clarity as well as a more sharp image quality. Zeiss controls lateral color fringing quite well. I loved the feel of them in my hands. Simple yet sturdy with quality feeling everywhere.
If you really want to parse the nuances of glass, you should spend some time on bird watching forums. Optics are the only gear that they carry and have to spend their money on. Its not uncommon for them to own Zeiss, Swaro, AND Leica.
Swarovski isn't the end all, be all of optical quality. I've looked through them and my high end Nikons and in some conditions, my Nikons were clearly better. If its that close, I'll take the glass that is markedly cheaper any day. :twocents:
