Got to put out a few sets today, put in 3 330s, one just below a dam crossing, one just above a small dam break and one castor mound set. I also set a #5 Bridger on a slide that I'm very excited about. Can't wait to connect with that trap, it's massive. I'll try and get a couple of photos of it tomorrow. Here's a couple of the 330 sets.

The 330 is right below the X in the branches, right smack in the middle of a nice channel.

Looks like easy fur to me.... :chuckle:

Sweet. Good luck.

Hope to see a beaver in a day or two.
I need someone proficient in catching beaver in my neck of the woods. I know of a spot that has tons of beaver sign and would love to trade my knowledge for a beaver pelt...... I really need to get my trappers education.

Jrebel they have the trappers rondy every summer not too far from you. I bet you could meet some one local and they'd be happy to show you a few things, or you can go to the rondy and watch some of the demos.
I'll be surprised if I don't have a beaver or two tomorrow and wouldn't be shocked at all to have three or four. Found quite a bit of coon sign as well. But we are supposed to get down to 3 degrees tomorrow night, so I doubt much will be moving. But by this weekend we are back up to the mid 50s.

You just have to love it when all your traps are full!! Put 4 sets out yesterday and caught 4 beaver. Got VERY lucky with the little one, caught him by the tail in a #5 Bridger. :) Good to be lucky once in a while!!

The medium sized beaver in the middle was caught in the set above where the wood makes an X. I didn't think I had one in the set because when I walked up the sticks hadn't moved, but it was suitcased and DOA on the spot.

 nice work, I will advance to beaver one day

Beaver can smell good and if they get scared, they can get a little tricky but they're seriously easy to catch in a swim-through. Do you have one yet?

4 for 4 is awesome, Machias!

Nice work!

4 for 4 is awesome, Machias!
:yeah: that's a profitable ratio. The one on the far left looks to be pretty good sized too.
Machias, do the beavers there get as big and heavy as the ones farther North?

dude even a whiners fan can catch a beaver :chuckle: :chuckle: seriously though if you can catch a mouse in your house you can catch a beaver, of course it was a little easier with connibers and leg holds but live traps catch them to, if you dont have any castor, then you can use some anise oil, once you catch one beaver you can use their castor to make your own sure fire lure....... nice catch machias, 4 for4 is awesome, hopefully your fox and cat sets pay off like that.... whats the weather like in your neck of the woods?
-
Sweet........You are sure sampling all the outdoor activities while living back east.
Good work

Jackmaster this morning was 6 degrees with a windchill of -17. They actually closed all the schools here. Dry pavement, no snow, it's just too cold. Cracks me up! But supposed to be almost 60 on Sunday!
-
Holy crap thats cold, corrects me here, but ain't it generally fairly mild back then? This is gotta be part of that cold snap thing comin from Canada or wherever right? Beavers are probably wondering what the hell is going on
-
Yes we normally have daytime highs in the upper 30s to lower 40s with the occasional 50. Nighttime lows are usually aroun the lower 30s. Don't get much snow at all.
-
That is some serious beaver
-
That very cool. Caught him by his tail that's a good one, should have turned him loose he was foul hooked. Lol. Just kidding. Great job hopefully them cat set pay off equally as well.

Would have, but he was at the end of a drowner. :)

I figured as much. Lol. I caught one today in a swim through about that size.
