Put in some beaver sets
« on: January 05, 2014, 04:24:37 PM »
Got to put out a few sets today, put in 3 330s, one just below a dam crossing, one just above a small dam break and one castor mound set.  I also set a #5 Bridger on a slide that I'm very excited about.  Can't wait to connect with that trap, it's massive.  I'll try and get a couple of photos of it tomorrow.  Here's a couple of the 330 sets.

The 330 is right below the X in the branches, right smack in the middle of a nice channel.

Hope to see a beaver in a day or two.

I need someone proficient in catching beaver in my neck of the woods.  I know of a spot that has tons of beaver sign and would love to trade my knowledge for a beaver pelt......  I really need to get my trappers education.

Jrebel they have the trappers rondy every summer not too far from you.  I bet you could meet some one local and they'd be happy to show you a few things, or you can go to the rondy and watch some of the demos.

I'll be surprised if I don't have a beaver or two tomorrow and wouldn't be shocked at all to have three or four.  Found quite a bit of coon sign as well.  But we are supposed to get down to 3 degrees tomorrow night, so I doubt much will be moving.  But by this weekend we are back up to the mid 50s.

You just have to love it when all your traps are full!!  Put 4 sets out yesterday and caught 4 beaver.  Got VERY lucky with the little one, caught him by the tail in a #5 Bridger.  :)  Good to be lucky once in a while!!

The medium sized beaver in the middle was caught in the set above where the wood makes an X.  I didn't think I had one in the set because when I walked up the sticks hadn't moved, but it was suitcased and DOA on the spot.

If you can catch mink, you'll be able to catch beaver

You guys are giving me a lot of credit, could of just been a dumb mink who went in on a dare from his buddies. :dunno:

Beaver can smell good and if they get scared, they can get a little tricky but they're seriously easy to catch in a swim-through.  Do you have one yet?

:yeah:  that's a profitable ratio.  The one on the far left looks to be pretty good sized too.

Machias, do the beavers there get as big and heavy as the ones farther North?
