Title: Ford Raptor
Post by: h2ofowlr on January 10, 2014, 06:45:29 PM
I went and test drove a Ford Raptor today.  Does anyone else have one or have any pro's and con's to one other than price?

Don't have one, but done some research. Really can't think of why not. For me the price held me back, but I'm in love with it.
It's a factory baja set up truck. Nothing to hate, and nothing else on the market compares in my opinion.

Wow!  A $50k + rig and jumping it like that.  Hope for good insurance.  Only problem is the gas tank is on the passengers side.  It will always list to that side depending on amount of fuel.

Looks like something that started with "Hey Bubba Watch This!" But all in all I think they are great trucks, but if you are so inclined Extreme 4x4 on spike tv built up a used F-150 to the same level of performance for half the cost. http://www.powerblocktv.com/episodes/XT2012-09/half-price-raptor-part-2 (http://www.powerblocktv.com/episodes/XT2012-09/half-price-raptor-part-2)

I have always been a ford owner. I have a Raptor that I use for my farm truck. Does everything I expected it too and still gets better fuel economy than my last f150. The suspension really shines at high speed, otherwise it drives just like a regular 1/2 ton. They are a lot of $$ but I believe I will get a great trade in price for it. I have two friends who have already traded theirs off and both got high $ for them. I believe they will be cheaper to run than a standard truck.

Hope you don't ever have to replace a shock on one. Holy crap they're expensive. Other than that, nothing typically bad about them that I've seen other than mpg's. I have a customer who has a Hennessy Velociraptor. Now we're talking.

I was in the office when my brother in law took possession of his raptor. The sales man that delivered it told us a story about a farmer that bought a truck from him. 30 min after the farmer picked it up he called the salesman back and told him (the salesman) "I just jumped this thin 5 feet in the air at 50mph and it landed like a dream. Tell anyone who wants one they do EVERYTHING they say they will do in the commercials."

These trucks are a production line off road racing truck. If you can hang with the price, you WON'T be disappointed with the performance... Guaranteed.  ;)

I don't know about its performance, but if it doesn't exceed your expectations you will at least look awesome in this truck  :chuckle: I am in love with the looks of this truck

I will say that the ram runner isn't as good on road but really takes off on the dirt.

No first hand experience but a friend of mine drove hers off a small drop off...  And the raptor went into crash mode and had to be taken back to the dealer to have the restraint devices replaced... At a couple thousand dollars. Not covered under warranty. But I looked the truck over several times soon after she got it and seemed to have very high grade suspension components like Cast aluminum a arms up front and just a general clean, well planned design.  To buy one and step into a fully setup off road truck I think is the way to go.

You could always go semi DIY and design and build something else for a fraction of the cost in some cases. Best part is its unique to your style.

That was an awesome jump! But man what a *censored*.
The biggest downfall of the Raptor is its payload. There really not setup to be a real cargo hauling truck. More of a racer. And there are alot of performance mods you can trade up to. Like 850 horse power and twin air shock suspension.

Maybe if your idea of offroading is high speed Baja style.

Other than it being 4WD,a Raptor would be just about worthless to me.

Talked to couple old co-workers from my L.E.O. days and majority of them drive the raptors as theirduty vehicles amd they havemt voiced any complaints amd couple of them drive their patrol vehicles in all kimds of offroad places.  Other than being a ford I ddon't see a problem, other than being a ford. :chuckle:

I believe I remember there payload only being 600 pounds???? Thats enough for me to call it a toy, not a truck.

I saw a Raptor in action once ...was about 200 miles south of San Ignacio when I was pre-running back in 2010...

They are a cool truck, but a little hyped up..they don't handle whoops all that well...start to swap out at about 15 MPH in truck whoops...FYI, truck whoops are big nasty 3 feet deep and about 15 feet across.

If ya get one, have fun!!! just remember...you will need to dump some significant cash into it to get it to run well at anything over 20 MPH in whoops...they are NOT a race rig!!

How are they for towing?  I saw a few comments that they weren't tow rigs.  But are the equivalent to what a standard F-150 would pull?

I hope he had fun--I don't know how many airbags went off, but it's a MINIMUM $1000.00 each to replace them!  :mor:

They have the power to pull for sure. But with a light payload your tongue weight has to be very low. I know on fast and loud they were towing there car trailers with one.

They have the same payload that any half ton truck should have.  1030 pounds.
The Supercrew-spec Raptor features a 1,030-pound payload capacity and a 8,000-pound towing capacity, up 100 and 2,000 pounds, respectively, from the Raptor SuperCab.
