Just curious what people think of shooting a mutant deer..
-
I can't even answer your poll because I wouldn't ever shoot an albino deer but have shot a couple piebald deer. So I would harvest the piebald, the regular, and never harvest the albino.
-
They are genetic anomalies, and from what I have read they are less likely to survive predators anyways due to their odd coloring making it more difficult for them to stay hidden. It also seems to me, that if all hunters pass them over we could end up in a situation where we get increasing numbers of piebald/albino animals and decreasing numbers of deer with normal coloration. So for that reason I would shoot the piebald/albino over the normal animal even if the piebald/albino were smaller.

Which ever provides me with the beter, cleaner shot.

I'd shoot the piebald/albino once in my life if it was presented. My nephew got a piebald this season, blacktail two point. They had seen it 3 summers in a row.
-
Definitely an instance where I would need two tags.
But if only one tag, I'd probably let the albino/piebald go and shoot the normal.

Ive seen two piebald deer in my life. They stuck out like a sore thumb in the timber. I tried to get them both times. Im sure they dont make it to long looking like that. In the end meats going to taste the same ,you just get a neat trophy to go along with it.

I have a Piebald that is 80% white I have tried to get. He would make a beautiful addition to the collection. I am 100% for it. Will post a pic soon.

I shot the only one I've ever seen.

There was one wondering around Silver Arrow Bowmen last year.

Both smaller bucks, I'd shoot the normal one.
Both PIGS, I'm not sure.
