Just got into South Dakota, going on a Buffalo Hunt in the morning! Should be fun- hopefully after 21 hrs of driving.... Tough finding a "Hunt" and not just a "Shoot"....we"ll see how it goes! Supposed to be a Trophy Bull-13 years old!!
-
Awsome and good luck
-
Sounds like fun, hopefully we will see some pics in the coming days.

Sounds interesting. I'd love to know more about the hunt and costs after you are done :)
-
I'll keep you posted!
Thanks!
-
Good luck there is nothing like a buffalo hunt. I think I have been looking into the hunt you are on, gotta do something, Wyoming wont let me have another tag. :)
-
Good luck!
-
good luck! keep us posted and tell the story when done, what kind of hunt? archery? muzzy? rifle? pistol? BPC rifle? 13 year old will be a nice bull
-
You hit a great week to to hunt weather wise! Good luck!
-
13 year old will be a beast!!! Shot two wild ones in AK on their draw system in Delta Junction, son got another and we did a Montana cow trip a few years back for a meat run - hopefully yours is a hunt and not a shoot like we did in Montana, as "wild" Bison are a blast to hunt... Very keen and alert, especially when the herd bull goes down, they all circled and got what appeared to be their final kicks in on them before herd busted off through the woods......
-
I did a shoot back in 2008 and it was fun, but I could only imagine going after the real deal  Like others said post some pics and a story. Have a safe drive there and back!
-
I cut up my first Bison a month ago and was very impressed with the quality of the meat, better than Elk if that's possible.
-

Sweet! Look forward to the details.
-
Very Cool. Can't wait to hear the story. That's a beast for sure. How much meat do you expect to get off of him?

Well I made it back, spent a lot of time driving (1250 miles one way). I hunted with Jim River Guide Service out of Mellette S.Dakota. It was a Good time and not just running out and shooting a cow in a buffalos' robe in a pen. We located the Bull and made a stalk on him and I was able to get within about 60 yds of where he was traveling to and waited for him to come. He never knew we were there when I was able to "start" shooting him.... I was shooting a Freedom Arms .454 Casull (7.5" barrel 2.5x8 Leupold)with Federal Prem. 300 gr Swift A-frames. I was able to break his shoulder (low in-line with heart) the first shot, then put 2 more in the same area before he turned direction at which time I shot him two more times in the area of the heart, (5 shot cylinder) I reloaded and dumped 5 more into him at maybe 65 yds, reloaded and shot him 2 more times before he layed down at which time I put two more into him(14 total) reloaded walked within 30 yds and put two more into him, and he still remained in the upright position-laying down, for a good 30 seconds before giving it up.... Total 16 shots, 3 from one side, 13 from the other all within a 8" diameter area, all on video and when skinned nothing in heart or lungs.... 3 shots in under the heart probably did the most damage the balance never made it through the shoulder to puncture heart or lungs..... Guide has been involved in many, many buffalo and called everyone of my shots, as on the video seen and once skinned seen again, hitting him hard where I should have been, just not getting the penetration.... Very tough animal, but very big handgun, a total of 16-300 gr slugs=4800 grains of swift A-frames....
It was fun, 13 year old bull, est'd live weight of 2400 lbs. hanging weight a little over 1000 lbs. Having a Pedestal shoulder mount and robe/blanket made out of the hide...and a bunch of burger!
-
Wow! That's a lot of shooting. Never would have thought they were that tough? Good work!! Nothing like a hard pack out. :chuckle:
-
Crazy big. lots of shooting...
-
Thanks for the great story and congrats again on a great hunt. Now...When are you hosting the Central Washington Buffalo hamburger round up this summer??? I will bring the Bruns and burger fixings!!!!! :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
Another thought I had when reading this story was; Can you imagine killing one with spears, long bows and wooden arrow. :yike: Amazing to think it use to be done that way.
-
Did you get a body weight on him?
Amazing animal.
-
You were lucky to find a 13 year old bull, not many that age running around. Congrats
-
I got some pics just like that...except the tractor was green :chuckle: def the best way to pack out those chest heavy critters
Congrats on the bull
-
Congradulations and sounds like an exciting hunt.
-
No buff too tough. :chuckle
Nice job.
-
WOW! That thing is huge! :)
-
Got some meat for the freezer now :chuckle:
-
I wonder if results would have been better if you had used hard cast bullets. Very cool adventure. Monstrous critter.
-
I think you are correct! I thought that a Swift A frame would be great, but it just flattened out and ran out of energy to quick..... Next time Hardcast all the way! I will also comment on the meat.... Everyone that has tried it loves it! It is very good, steaked the tenderloins and they are great as expected and not tough, put the rest to burger, going again when we run out of burger, should be sometime in 2020 :)
-
16 times :yike:
-
Congrats on a nice buffalo. That's one tough critter.
-
Congrats!! Nice animal, and full freezer!
