Story to come Well we had about twenty four hours of rain before the hunt yesterday. But before that my buddy called me to say that he had been seeing a real monster in the area. so we went to take a lookse and see if we could get to a huntable spot . We find out what looks like an area that should connect to where we had been seeing the hog. Se we hike in and it is excellent spot, tall timber with clear cuts dispersed throughout and lots of reprod. We jumped a deer on the way in so Im feeling good about the next mornings hunt. On the way out we see another guy scouting the same area, Im like looks like were not the only one seeing the hog. So we plan to be there at the crack the next morning and when we get there the guy from the night before is already there. No prob we know where he came out yesterday so we head in and decide to push onto an area that borders some heavy timber leading to several great bowls. We make a push and I look across the ravine and see my partner waving like a mad man and pointing down into the bowl. I move forward cautiously and spot a fat doe at 80 yrds broadside looking back so I just keep looking eventually she moves across and heads into the timber. I look back over at my partner and see someone pushing up the ravine behind him. We meet up and he asks me if I seen it and I say yeah. We decide to push up the clear cut and see what happens, we split up and wrok our way up to the top and nothing. At the top I can see another treeline that looks like it heads into another bowl situation so I tell my buddie lets just keep pushing I'll hit the tree line and see if I can push something out to ya. We split up and I see that the stuff I am headed into is much bigger and thicker that it looked from below, Oh well I'm thinking here we go. I find a nice deer trail and start into the heavy stuff about fifty yards in the trail just disapeers so I just find the best way through that I can and as soon as I step out of the crap, I see a rack bigger that the one I shot headed straight away into the heavy stuff. I pushed into the area making several circles hpoing to see him again to no avail. At this point I feeling like my oportunity just snuck past without a shot oportunity. Oh well back into the thick stuff at this point i'm already soaked. Trails everywhere and several beds but it is so thick that I know if I jump one in here the chances of getting a shot are slim, hopefully the pard gets a shot at him. We we meet on the road and I say where does this road go and he says around the bottom, I think we can get out this way. So we decide to follow it and see where it leads. Along the road we start to see some heavy deer traffic and my deer sense just starts tingling. We pop out and see that we are at the botoom of a pretty good clearcut with heavy timber running along side it. Imediatly I notice some pumpkins up in the clear cut, were looking at them and they are looking at us when I see movement out of the corner of my eye. I look over and this buck is coming out of a draw, I see that he has good horns but he stops behing a cedar that has low hanging bushes. At this point the 7mm is up and ready and the pard is going were is he. I said wait let him come and just as I say this he moves forward about fifteen yards and stops just the other side of a big snag and spots us. He is looking straight at us and I can see that there is some branches in front of the vitals so I move over to his chest and see a small window. I move the luepold over and take the shot immediately he jumps like a scalded cat , I chamber another round and at the second jump as he is clearing a log I hit him again. My buddie yells he's down. I go you sure, he's like yeah you got him. We dance around and I say a few quick prayers and then we start moving towards where we think he is. We get to the area that he was standing when I shot and I dont see much just a lot of prints. I'm really praying now and we move over to the log that we seen him going over and there he is piled up on the other side. Needless to say the high fives were really flying now. The pumpkins that were on the clear cut come down to see the buck and offer to go to their house and bring in their quad and pull him out. I offer to give them some gas money and they refuse. Real sportsman. Awesome. Well they haul it out for me and save me some wear and tear on this old fat ass and I'm thinking I need to but a lottery ticket on the way home. By the way one of the young men that helped us out showed me a 5x6 that he shot last year. I can gurantee that I will be back to hunt this big buck hole again! later, sorry! :P
