Putting in again but starting over after drawing last year.

I'll apply, but I won't draw even with 14 points.  With the points creep, I'm guessing I might have 4-5 years before I catch up to the max pool and can draw the tag I want.

I got 7pts so I put in for the actual draw this year and not pts.  Muzz area 5

we are putting in again for a unit you can draw about every 4 or 5 years. not the best unit, but still lots if fun

That's my plan too going forward.  The way their draw is set up now, you basically get one chance to draw the best tags, then you need to apply for something else.  I cashed in my deer points this year and need to find something new to apply for.  I'll draw a primo elk tag in a few years, then will need to do the same for elk.

I used my points last year and had a great hunt. Used 12 points on a unit I could draw with 7. I hunted 16 archery days and 13 of 16 days I could have harvested a 280-330" bull and 2-4 bulls a day. I chased a bull around for 3 days that was harvested and score 403" then moved to another area and chased a 9x7 and a 6x6 and each would have scored 370-380". Never saw another hunter in this area either, it was almost deafing with all of the screaming bulls.
Took me 40 years to draw a tag in this state and YES I am going to start building points again in Arizona and I am 62 years old and no I am not doing points in this state as I doubt I could do it again at 102 years young.

I pulled out of the game.   Having some regrets now, though I was sick of "wasting" money.

The good part is I will start in the draw this year with 2 loyalty points and a hunter safety point and 1 for the year. I got 4 points going into this years draw in 3 more years I will draw again. 3 years ago I drew a deer tag and went down shot a 200" buck and already got 5 points going into the draw this year will draw that tag again in a couple of years.

*Resident* pool with 7 points  :IBCOOL:

I see where you're coming from, Bone. I'm trying to figure out which western state screws the non residents the most and I think we may be in the running. Best wishes to all who apply.  :)

Also have 14 points and have already applied, but won't draw for 3-4 more years.  I'm approaching retirement and may be an AZ resident someday, which will change thins a lot...including my 15 deer points

its the restricted limit on non-resident tags that makes it so tough.

but I'll keep applying for the next 5 years.
than call it quits.
up to 9 points so far. Hoping to get lucky for units 3a or 3B

I went shed hunting last year in the 3's and was surprised to find more in 3B than in 3A.

how do you get more than one loyality point
Title: Re: Arizona elk?
Post by: Bean Counter on January 21, 2014, 09:59:29 AM
You cannot. On your 5th year of applying, you are awarded a non cumulative loyalty point. You will get one each year you continue to apply so long as you do not stop. You can also get a non cumulative point for attending hunters safety in Arizona. No, mailing them your certificate from another state won't cut it.

Don't let them slip buy you only live once , by then units 9 and 10 will take more to draw.

the odds say non-resident it will take max points to draw in unit 9 which I think is already at 22 and unit 10 took 19 last year for non-resident but with offering 100 tags this year instead of the 75 last year that means 3 more non-residents should draw this is for early rifle

Early Rifle in Unit 9 was not offered last year, unit 10 had 7 NR tags of which all had over 19 points

Actually this year I hunted down near Springerville. I am not a resident unfortunately. Just keep putting out the $$$ like all the rest of the Non Residents. Good luck on your draws.

So whats it cost to just get points? I would be interested in starting i would even be interested in just finding a unit with lots of action for the first time doesn't have to have monster bulls just lots of action. I have 9 points in Washington for archery i might as well start to put in some where else to.

That's some awesome looking country in there.  I've driven through a couple of times on my way to the Gila.  How did it go?

i mistakenly put in for elk in az this year as a individual . not a group hunt. so i am hoping that me or my 2 buddies dont draw this year. o well. if any of the 3 of us draw we are all going .

You and I are in the same boat my friend! At 51 years old, I'm mainly looking at units I can go have a quality hunt and draw it every 3-5 years or so. That is more important to me than maybe only getting to go one more time in my life...
