Anyone own one? sure thinking about ordering one, they look nice
-
First I've heard of them.
-
i think carpsniper may have a nice one for sale. might want to check with him before you order.
-
I'd have to shoot it before I'd consider buying one.
-
I haven't owned one, but I have had the opportunity to shoot one 62"/62#. They have nice tapers and nice craftsmanship. Not the highest performance recurve I've ever shot and the grip is a traditional modified target style handle that I'm not a big fan of. The shelf work is extremely nice - possibly the best since Bighorn Custom. It did shoot nice and the hand vibration was minimal. I'd rate it better than the Black Widow and just a touch behind the Asbell/Bighorn Custom. That's pretty darn good company if you ask me.
-
Never shot one but I think they are generally regarded as one of the best recurves out there. Certainly beautiful.

Norm makes one of thee finest recurve bows around! They shoot just as nice as they look! Have had mine for 8 years... 64" 60#@29" Bocote & cocobolo

Made the mistake of stopping by his shop while on vacation. Had to order another. #1 is just like yours. This one will be more contrasting woods. I went with highly figured Myrtle footed with Coco and the limbs will be Myrtle with Coco tips. A little more light/dark. Same weight so I can switch back and forth with ease. 66" and 57@ 31. I just heard from Norm today and it ships next week :yike: 18 months. Kinda like having a baby, only longer. :chuckle:
Pics to come!

What kind of arrows you shoot? Probably can't get woodies long enough? I'm building myself a set of doug fir that are footed with wenge, they were 34" to start with.

That's some fine looking fir!
-
Norm Johnson builds as good a bow as anyone and is one of the true gentlemen of archery. He has a great reputation among those who appreciate bows that bend.
Those are going to be beautiful arrows, Tree Killer, and they will pack a wallop!
-
Well now I just talked to Robert of Black Widow Bows for the helluva it and he almost got me convinced to buy one of his Cocabola and Yew backed recurves. I'm so torn between that and the Blacktails Snakebit I'm at the point to flip a coin between the two. The Black Widow is a little more expensive so it's gotta be better right?
I want the blacktail mainly because that's what I intend to hunt with it. I hope Norm would build me one as magical as TK's obviously is.

Grip and delivery is the only part where I believe a Widow has the advantage. If you can remain patient I'd still go with the Blacktail. Their limbs are just soooo much better IMO.
-
Maybe so but I've always been particular to Yew wood

I'm sure it had more to do with the man behind the bow, not the bow itself :chuckle:
-
Everyone knows TK is de man when it comes to stick and string blacktail, but the bow yew use is still half of it :twocents:
-
I ran one for about a year. I traded it to another member on here. I just did not shoot it well. It was a very nice bow but did not shoot well for me. I have to many bows to keep one that I don't shoot well.

If you order a new Blacktail, all the packaging that comes with the bow has one of my buck photographs on it. :)
