Title: thinking about hunting north of spokane
Post by: Nick99337 on January 19, 2014, 01:06:28 AM
Hello all, I'm from the kennewick area and was hoping to be doing some spring turkey hunting this year. I've heard of turkeys being in the walla walla area which is very close to me obviously, but not sure of any public lands places to look. I've heard that most of the birds bagged in the year come north of spokane area. Would anyone be willing to point me in a good general direction for some public land to hunt. I do plan on going up a few weekends before and scouting, any help on a general location would be much appreciated. I've camped in the deer park area and somewhat know that area, but not enough to be sure.

There is tons of Colville National Forest north of Deer Park/Chewelah/Newport and north. Google it and you'll see..........

Indeed there are turkeys all over up north. They seem to be in pockets and never leave those areas.

Look on colville website. They post maps of where public hunting is for turkeys. Also try knocking on some doors. Farmers hate them and are usually friendly and open to hunting them.

 :yeah:
Suggest getting on some back roads vs main roads though ... poor guys on the main road have probably either given their permission or get tired of so many people stopping by ...

If you don;t have goggle or computer access, then DNR in Colville will sell you a map that shows public land.

Not as many birds as Colville/Kettle Falls (plus cell phone coverage sucks), but fewer people pressuring the birds ... here's my 4-minute double from 2 years ago ..... the bigger bird was 22 lbs with an 11-1/2 inch beard.  Five shooters within 10 yards ... dropped the 2 at 20 yards 4 minutes after legal shoot opening morning.
