Title: Which vortex
Post by: Maverick on January 24, 2014, 10:42:22 AM: So I've narrowed it down to these two spotting scopes but not sure which to go with. Weight isn't a huge issue but the info they show for comparison I don't really understand. Which would you go with and why?

First two numbers are its focusing range 20-60 then the third nummber is the size of the lens on the end. Bigger the lense the more you see but becomes overly bulky sometimes. So 20-60x80 is its focusable from 20x to 60x zoom and its got a large 80mm lense.

Post by: Karl Blanchard on January 26, 2014, 06:46:20 PM: Its a personal preference. I prefer a 60x, 80mm spotter. Is it big and heavy? YES! Is it worth the weight to me? YES! Its worth it when you can count points and see eyeguards, growth rings, etc rather than only being able to see frame size or horn presents. What are your specific uses?

thats the scope I have. It has served me very well hunting and shooting. Can spot rifle shots at 1000 + yards. Great spotter for me. Soul have loved the razor hd but out of my pay grade.

Gr8fulDoug (cameralandny.com) sells all his customer returns and demo models for super cheep. I picked my spotter up last year for a steal. It was a customer return. The guy didn't like the straight lens so he sent it back. Completely 100% new condition, box, all paperwork intact.

Post by: Maverick on January 26, 2014, 08:11:35 PM: Sounds like the 80mm would better suite me then because a lot of the glassing I do for in the off season is at first and last light. I'd like to pack it around for shed season but I think I can do that with the 80mm to though. Little bit more wight but I think will be worth. I want a straight not an angled.

someone else will know more than I but I think it is high density glass or high density coatings on the glass.
I think it means more clarity and color contrast... and more $. :chuckle:

Post by: Elknut1 on January 28, 2014, 07:34:17 AM: Yes, the 80mm will entertain much more light over the 60mm. The 80mm weighs in at 2lb 15oz. It is bigger & a little heavier but it will do better during all lower light conditions. The DiamondBack 60mm & 80mm are non HD models, the 80 runs aprox 450.00 - The photo is of the 80mm.

HD glass is recommended if hunters plan on doing much digiscoping, this is because you have a clearer & more colorful picture just as your TV is much better with HD than non HD! Colors & clarity will "pop" much nicer!
