The tag opened at $10,000, final bid was $15,500.
There was a statement made that it is a record price for the tag. I didn't verify.
Great time had by all tonight.
-
Holly cow. I would sell him my WA 10 inch shoulder mount Goat for that and save him the pain! :bash:
-
I saw something on facebook that james petker and aaron snyder will be doing the hunt again. Not sure who bought it :dunno:

Aaron Snyder is the main salesperson for Kifaru so probably payed for by a sponsor(s)
Kind of a "duh" statement though :chuckle:
-
Yeah $15k would be a record for that tag.
-
Guess you heard right ...I guess the state record was not good enough :yike: :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
Sweet, can't wait for the hunt story and pics.

James knows the guy who bought it, don't accidently start a rumor........ :)

Anyone who knows James would agree with that statement.
I highly doubt any of the funds for the tag came from a sponsor.

James didn't buy the tag.
-
Correct he didn't buy the tag. I was referring to him wanting to go help the 2014 tag holding.

And neither did Aron Snyder.
-
Gotcha. Just clarifying from the other posts.
-
And I wasnt starting rumors, just sayin what I saw on facebook that they both would be on the hunt. Thats why I wrote not sure who bought the tag
-
I think he was referring to Smossy post.
-
What do I know lol. I was taking a guess.
-
So does anyone know who actually purchased the tag?
-
I dont think that price is to bad honestly. Look at what the elk tags go for, and how much cooler a goat is :twocents:

I didn't catch his name, two guys were going head to head from about $12,500 until it sold at $15,500. Hopefully we can hear the story after the hunt!

Just a few years ago this tag was selling in the $5-8000 range. The last couple of years it has really jumped up.
-
Ok guys, I havent been on here for a while since temporarly moving to Chicago... So the skinny on the whole Goat tag is as follows...
My Good Friend Ben from Bellingham who was by my side and filmed my Goat hunt on Mt.Baker back in 2012 has been wanting the tag ever since, along with a few others as well who bid against him :yike:
As many of you know Aron Snyder is one of my good friends and on my hunt as well. We agreed that if Ben got the tag we would assist him in scouting and during the hunt. So the plan is after I complete a Mid September Muzzleloader Elk hunt in Colorado with Aron, he will ride back here to WA with me and help Ben with his Goat hunt the rest of the season.
No Sponsors were involved to purchase the tag, just a lot of Hard work and Sacrifice by Ben running his own successful business over the years.
We will be pimping the Hell out of Kifaru Back packs and Kryptek Camo while trying to find a new state or maybe world record Billy!!!
BChaser will be up there again with us as well along with a few others like ShaneVG...
This Tag is getting expensive now and way out of my reach ever again, so I will have to live threw others on these hunts. I am looking forward to helping Ben find a Billy that will Bury mine deep in the books, and they are definetly here to be had!
Oh ya also Looking forward to filling my New Kifaru nomad this season with 100lbs of gear and meat and grinding it out on the trail back to the Truck at Midnight again!!!! Oh the memories, thats why we all do it right!!!!!
-
sounds like a worthy workout goal :chuckle:
-
eatingthefreezerempty you are killing me, we dont need a fat kid challenge over here as well..... LOL
-
Good luck to all of you!

:chuckle: :dunno:
sounds like a blast!
cracks me up though, like people are just throwing money at you and aron to do bada-ss hunts.... dont you wish
-
Sounds like a new Mossback crew in the making.
LOL. Have a great time James.
-
Right on James, glad you came on to set things straight before this went sideways....... Looking forward to hearing about this one.
-
I didn't see anything going sideways.
-
I didn't see anything going sideways.
There was some speculation and its a thread about an auction tag, just a matter of time before it would go sideways.
-
I was the other guy duking it out with Ben. :bash: I had been led to believe that there were quite a few serious buyers that were going to be in the room and on the phones. I was surprised how fast the out-of-state guys on the phones bailed early on.
I sure hope he gets his money's worth out of this goat hunt. I mean c'mon...$15,000 is one thing, but $15,500 is just crazy high for a goat. ;)
Now it's a wait and see game for the permit and raffle draw ( 8) ), or see what's available at the SCI Convention in Vegas. It will be interesting to see which other units WDFW might open up. Either way, I'd love to head up there with Ben, James and Aron with some big Swarovski glass and help him find a freak. It's all about the experience and being in the mountains with good people!

Ok gotcha. I thought the speculation got cleared up pretty quick. James' auction tag thread went pretty well a couple years ago.
-
He kept it a secret (loosely) for a lot longer last time.
-
Sort of.

Hey Everyone,
First post here on Hunt Washington, but since my phone was blowing up about me buying the Washington goat tag (fact checking must not be required), I figured I better see what tag I bought and how much I payed:)
Anyway, I was with James when he killed the current state record and so was Ben. As you can imagine, a lot of BSING was going on during the hike out and Ben made it clear he would get the tag when we all could go along with him.
I know for James and I 2014 is going to be a crazy season. James should draw a kick ass elk tag in Colorado (we've been planning this for a long time) and I'll be in the Northwest Territories for a couple months before that hunt with James.
At the end of the day, it's all about the adventure and hanging out with friends, but I know we're all committed to go the distance to see a another state record hit the ground.
So hopefully our ladies don't leave us and we don't get fired either!!!!
Great to be a part of this forum!

Congrats on a great tag Aron, and THANK YOU for supporting WA wildlife with your tag donation. I cant wait to hear the story and see the pics.

I'm pretty sure Aron said He didn't buy the Tag. :dunno:
-
Reading everything I think the James got the tag and Ben and Aron will be helping on the hunt.
-
Ben got the tag.....James and I will be helping.
Sorry for the confusion.

Hmmm.... The way I read it, the goat got the tag and it'll be hunting James, Ben, AND Aron. :dunno:

Thanks for all the compliments on my goat tag. James, Aron and Ben will be my film crew as I try and take a new world record with a spear in the Teanaway. They're going to film it with their iphones. Hopefully the wolves don't get me.

I'll be clothed for the filming, but James may go naked, or in the standard Beast Mode loin cloth.....
Not sure what Ben will be sporting, as he's a bit for fashion focused than James and I!

Kind of a "duh" statement though :chuckle:
If I asked Patrick (owner of Kifaru) to pay for governors tag, he would laugh me out of the building and fire me at the same time.
Bushcraft could comment more on this, as he's known Patrick a long time too.
-
Really glad some hard core guys got this tag rather than some cream puff. Can't wait to see how it plays out!

Beast mode or meat mode?
-
I'm glad to hear that one of the usual suspects with deep pockets didn't buy the tag. There are a few guys that seem to purchase an auction tag or two every year or so, because its within their means. Most of us average Joe's could never afford or justify buying several auction tags over our lifetime. It's cool to see a normal hard working guy save up his pennies and buy himself a once in a lifetime tag. :twocents:
Congrats to Ben on the tag and hopefully you guys have a very memorable and successful hunt.

Sounds like pasty white breast mode.

Ha! Patrick would probably ignore you at first, thinking that no one could possibly be stupid enough to have asked such a question.
Aron, We need to coordinate a time/location for the Kifaru and Rokslide Washington rendezvous. How about the first weekend in August?

You wont get a high turn out from Rokslide guys if you have it in August. We all decided last year that we are busy scouting/hunting then. Mid to late July seemed to be a popular theme and worked out well last year.
-
Looking forward to see how it turns out up there! Hope you guys slam a giant.
