Title: 243 load data?
Post by: Archery King on January 26, 2014, 08:22:36 PM: Hey guys I'm having trouble finding a good load to shoot out of my 243. Could be just because its a cheap ruger American but i still think I can get close to 1 moa. I want to to shoot an 87 gr H V-max but could try something else. What powder and bullets do guys like and get to group well?

Both shot well at ~2800fps from an H&R single shot my sons used to have. Work up to this load as it is approaching 'warm'. You won't likely find this load in any of the books. I don't recall the twist rate of the American, but the 95-100gn bullets usually perform well out of just about any factory 243 barrel. Your mileage may vary.

Post by: Archery King on January 27, 2014, 08:56:07 PM: Thanks guys ill try these out. I think I was going wrong with H 414 ill try varget or H4831 since I have both on hand. Most likely will just kill coyotes. If I do go after deer ill move to a 100gr bonded bullet.

Post by: jrebel on January 29, 2014, 07:18:35 PM: My wife shoots factory Winchester Super X 100 grain and it will out shoot anything I can load for it. My first two shots at 300 yards were withing 1"....Luck?? Who knows...but I didn't shoot anymore after that. Stopped while I was ahead. :tup:
