Title: Varmit huntin with black powder...
Post by: OEFvet1986 on January 30, 2014, 03:13:48 PM
Just wondering if anyone here has hunted small game or varmits with a blackpowder rifle or pistol. I have a repro 1851 colt navy in .36 cal thinking of going rabbit hunting with it.

Practice up and go! It's a blast(sorry, bad pun). There is a true sense of accomplishment when you come home with a few rabbits or Grouse that you have taken with BP. It was the only gun I had as a kid and did some damage to the Rabbit population with it. I also recently have been thinking about a BP side by side shotgun. Good luck

In late winter I used to go out on my XC skis and hunt/call fox with my 45 cal. Flintlock, worked just as well as a centerfire.
