I did my quick foray to one of my spots in Idaho. My plan was to shoot the first legal buck I saw since I really didn't have time to trophy hunt. Well I couldn't do it on the first couple little snappers I found. Something about shooting a little buck just to fill a tag that just didn't feel right to me. Anyhow I was working up the face of this mountain, and if you have ever been in this part of Idaho, there are two directions, up and down. I was hitting the fog again, like I was cursed or something. Anyhow, I was gaining ground climbing this ridge and almost to the top of a bench and I look up and all I see is bone at thirty feet through a bush. Visibility was to about 40 feet in the fog. I figured he was bedded, but I found out in a minute he wasn't. Anyway, no time for an eval. He lifeted his head up at me looking down his nose over the bush and I stuck a stinger right into his throat. This is the second time I have done this on a buck. The arrow went through something awefully bloody and his spine. He flipped over, did a couple convulsions and bled out right on the spot. I fished him off the mountain a ways until I got into deep brush and the rocks got dangerous. Then went to work cutting him up. I slipped back to the truck, got my frame pack and loaded him up. He was sure a stinky bugger. He had taken a shot to the nose by another buck. You can probably see it in some of the pics. That was a fresh wound. He had an old wound tot he eye that was infected. He also had an old stab to the shoulder that wasn't looking real good. He was definately a fighter. Another old buck.

Good Job! Your the man... I wish that I could be there to watch the action. Congrats.
Any more tags to fill?
-
thats unreal Bone. Congrats.
-
Very nice Buck Congratulations. Great pictures.
-
Bone, you are true hunting hero. I am very impressed with your dedication and passion to our sport. An inspiration to us all!
-
I have a Montana tag. I think I have until after Thanksgiving and then some December times if I use my bow. At least the price of gas has plummetted. It literally costs half less. I mean fill up a truck for 50 bucks versus not being able to fill it for a $100 makes a HUGE difference. We'll see if I make it over. I am enjoying photography alot too and its not quite as far away from the family. I might get to take Lil Bone out tomorrow.
-
 What a great buck! Way to go! :chuckle:
The rut is going strong. We were out there in 101 and the whitetails were still nockternal . But the sign was everywhere with more every day! :chuckle:

Right on bone, way to keep putting them in the dirt!
I was thinking about the price of gas yesterday, If it cost half, I can hunt twice as much :chuckle:
-
Great buck .
-
Wow, your such a stud...............
Nice buck too.
-
Way to go Bone. You got it done again. Nice buck and nice pics!!!
-
Thanks GUYs. Now Passion, to get that 190 on film. :)
The whitetails haven't fired yet where I was hunting or where I was doing photgraphy. I am hoping they fire by this Weds as Timber and I are hitting it. If not, I guess we'll look at Muleys. Darn. They are mounting right now. The big boys are all over those does. Sorry two points. Thanks for doing all that running around, now you get to stand and watch to see how its done.
-
I did get a big two on film that had a nice 4 oftly frustrated. She was close. He mounted her a dozen times but she would always move ahead then stop. It was close. The four point really wanted in the action and if he moved on probably could have some, but not with this two point. My third big two of the fall.
-
I finally got a real camera yesterday.....some sort of fancy Sony might need some tips at some point :dunno:
Got an upgraded lens of some sort
anyway I have two left feet when it comes to cameras
-
As long as your right index finger works you are ok. The left feet thing will just keep you from getting to the deer. ;) I'm sure I could help with that though. I know where lots of deer winter range. LOL
-
Im going on my pisscutter hunt on wednesday......wish I could hunt where I really want :(
-
Congrats on another nice Idaho buck, knew you could do it. :hello:
-
Awesome Buck Bone!!! That Saphire is lettin the air out of em!!!
-
Nice buck bone! Way to get it done again!
-
By the way guys....smae broadhead(same arrow).....two bucks, one coyote one stinger. :) Its now my lucky arrow for Montana.
-
Nice looking buck! Your on a roll! Good luck in Montana.
-
good looking buck. How many animals have you taken with your longbow?
-
good job
-
Congrats Bone. Staying focused when the fog keeps moving in and out isn't easy to do. way to stick with it. Good luck in Montana. Great shot.
-
Very nice muley buck!!! Congrats! At least it was all "Down Hill" to the truck!!! :chuckle:
-
Congrats Bone! Very impressive season and doing it all with a long bow impresses me the most.
Geno
-
Nice buck Bone.
-
Sweeet bro... what ya doing with him?
wall or bone pile?
-
Not sure Longtat. I like to mount all of the good ones for my "Trophy wall" "Bar" family "Game room" that I would like to have when I get old and rich, but I am starting to stack them up like cord wood in the freezer. Can you say freezer burn!
Lets see Craig. An elk, a moose, and 4 deer I think.
That Idaho would be big country to get lost in the fog. I was glad it went elsewhere as its one thing to be hiking around in your home country, but over there, not comfortable at all. At least you know up and down. :)
-
Great job Doug, a beautiful buck for sure.
-
Wow Bone Congrats man... Nice buck.. Im jealous....
-
Lets see that arrow bone! Pretty lucky not breaking after all the animals its taken. Pretty cool.
-
you have heard it all by now.,. but way to go bone.
-
Great pics. Awesome looking rack with alot of character. Not to mention with a traditional bow nice job...
-
Nice work Doug! Looking forward to more from you this year!!!
Michael
-
You are good. Not much more to say. Congrats on another great buck!
-
Good job Doug!! Another decent buck and you are thinning out the older bucks this year.
-
Great buck Bone! I bought a Magellan explorist off eBay and it gives me piece of mind when out hunting in an unfamiliar place. (fog). Great shot as well!
-
Congrats again Doug!! Great buck, looks like you'll be busy this winter mounting antlers!
-
I think you need to post a side by side comparison of what you looked like preseason, and something to show how much looser the clothes are fitting with all of that up and down climbing. Great job on the Idaho buck.
-
Way to go Doug... Thanks for putting that bow to such good use!
-
am I supposed to start yet another Montana thread or should I just add to this one or the bones Alta hunt. LOL
-
does that mean you killed another buck?
-
Yep, three for three on buck tags. ZERO for three on elk. though I suppose hornseeker will be telling em shortly that Montana is still open...
-
you are the MAN!
-
Do you have to work tomorrow JDB? I am hitting the desert by Moses. You can pack iron and I'll pack glass. (I assume you can pack iron anyway)
-
this great news that means you can come help me kill a buck next weekend :chuckle:JB
-
Yeah I'll let you explain to my wife why I am going to be gone even more. LOL
-
why is jdb packin iron in the desert somethin i dont know?
-
I think the plan is that I am going to try to shoot big desert bucks with my Canon, and if we stumble on any dawgs, he gets to deflate them with his. I get the benefit of an extra pair of eyes, and he gets the benefit of having to listen to me about carrying my damn big camera.
-
ahh i thought mayb he had a raffle tag he hadnt told us all about but that sounds like a hell of a plan theres plenty of dawgs out ther to shoot
-
Great buck! That's an awesome talent you possess with that recurve. Well done as usual!
MS

Pimpin the products, and a great hat, lol

Great pics again bone.

Bone. It seem like you are one hell of a hunter. I see the ring on your finger in some of your pictures and am wondering how the heck you do it :) :) :). My wife has me by the short hair during september elk, and muzzle deer in december. How do you get away with hunting multiple states. Just looking for some advice, did you just get lucky and find the perfect wife or what. Oh yeah, great animals, all of them. I am jaelous, but I still think the blacktails are better. :) :) :)
