Well the time has come and a decision has been made. My dog wont eat . loss of being able to control his pee and other things.
Called Sumner vet at it is almost $500 to put him down and cremate him.
Anyone know of any cheaper place in the area?

I know of a lot of people around me that go to Value Pet Clinic, the one closest to you is Puyallup: 253-200-1348. I don't know prices but it's worth a call.

Sorry you are having to go through this. I had to put down my 15 year old Chocolate 2 years ago and am facing the same decision for my 15 year old Black. It is a ways to go for you, but the Purdy Vet (just outside of Gig Harbor) was reasonably priced and very sympathetic to their customer needs.

My thoughts are with you. I went through the same thing with my mix dog three yrs ago. It was about $350 to put down and cremate so I had him put down and then the kids and I buried him and made him a headstone. That cost was about $110.

We had Timber Ridge (Bonney Lake) put a dog down last June. We had them come to our house, do the injection and then we buried him in our back yard. Fortunately we have a large lot, may not be feasible for others. I think the bill ran around $100.
Sorry to hear about this. I've been through this several times and it's never easy.

Hey Ross, very sorry to hear about your dog. We went through the same thing a couple months ago, very hard thing to do. Cascade vet in Buckley came out to our car in their parking lot to put KC down. It cost 100 or 120, not sure about cremation , we brought her home to bury. Very sad to lose a good friend, take care. My wife thinks they charge 200 for cremation, but not positive. If you need anything please let me know.

I went through the same thing last fall, but the last thing I wanted my dog to remember was a Vet's office.... I took her to the place she loved to hunt and put her down and buried her there. Tough for me to do for she was my friend and companion, but better for her in my opinion.
Very personal thing, we all have to do what works for us individually...

Sorry to hear Rossy, tough times. I have only been around this once and the vet came to the house. If you can arrange that in your budget, really keeps the dog calm and in their own environment. It sounds like some others have made some good recommendations on vets to do this.

Sorry to hear. We always have done it ourselves, sounds a little cruel but they are most comfortable around you and I think its the way to do it. Idk about cremation tho so you may not have an option. Once again, sorry for your loss :'(

Tough to hear. We had to face that same choice back in september. There was a local vet outfit here in Maple Valley that came out to the house and did it. That and the cremation was around $300 I believe. I was not home at the time, but my wife said she was very professional. It is never easy.

I did that as well. She hated the vet office.

Here in sumner you can't bury your animals apparently. So says the wife. I will have to call and see if they will do it here then take Sterling with them.

I don't know the laws and don't advocate breaking any... But whether out in the middle of public land, or in my own back yard, I'm not going to ask permission to bury my pet. Just make the hole deep and or covered in good sized boulders so scavengers or busy bodies won't be able to find it or mess with it.
I worked in a vet hospital when in college. I held dogs as they were being put down. For a calm and trusting dog, it is very quick and peaceful. But other dogs, like mine, just hate everything about the vet. They shake, pee, and fight it the whole way. No way my dog was going out like that...

I have put down a few of our dogs and a couple of horses, some were much tougher than others. Some the family wanted to say goodbye and others I just took it upon myself to take the wrath when they got home. There is no easy way, around here our biggest worry is digging the hole deep enough. It is a very personal and tough decision.
