Welcome to the Northwest Pointing Labrador Club. It’s only been a week since the Club was registered with the state as a non-profit, By-Laws were developed, officers for the Board of Directors were named and we’ve already had our first formal training day! So much accomplished in a small amount of time. As the first President of the Northwest Pointing Labrador Club I’d like to say thank you all for taking the time to either participate in getting this off the ground, writing in support of our venture, checking us out on Facebook, participating in the training day or looking up our website (www.nwpointinglabs.org (http://www.nwpointinglabs.org) ) to see what we are about.
I’m excited! And I apologize for my frequent use of the exclamation point but I’m excited! The formation of a club in the Northwest for the recognition, promotion and advancement of the American Pointing Labrador has long been a dream of my husband and I. It took an email from your new Secretary/Treasurer Lily Lo about 6 months ago for us to combine our efforts and with Lily’s persistence get the ball rolling. I cannot thank Lily enough for the time and effort she put into making this club a reality. I would also like to thank Marlana Smith of British Columbia for her assistance and for agreeing to serve as our Vice President. Marlana has been a long time member of the APLA, has been on the APLA Hall of Fame committee, has some great and exciting ideas for activities for the club and contributes the same desire to further the American Pointing Labrador in the Northwest that Lily and I do.
This club is about you and your dogs. We want your input and participation. We have developed a Forum site on our webpage where by a simple registration process you can post pictures of hunting adventures with your dogs, ask training questions, look for a hunting or training partner, share that favorite spot or whatever PL related topic you’d like to share. We are on Facebook and will be updating our page often with Club news, photo’s, videos, etc. Our training days will be posted under the Events tab and are open to everyone, not just PL owners. We envision holding youth events, possibly a women’s seminar, clinics on first aid, dog health in the field, gun safety and will listen to whatever you might like to see. There is a Rattlesnake Aversion Clinic scheduled this summer and we’re looking forward to an APLA hunt test in the fall.

I'm a member. We had our first training day on Feb. 2. Right now things are a little unorganized, but we are only a few months old. I am renewing my game farm license, so the club can have birds available for sale on trainings days. That's down the road a way as I have to grow the birds, but it is happening.

The CPR is a pretty "loose" standard/interpretation. If you read the requirements, it's really...basic. Now, for moving up and on to higher levels, raw talent and a lot of training needs to take place.
More folks getting out together and training together the better. For folks involved, be sure to think about Cherry Valley as a training day location. It requires a quick and inexpensive permit which you can obtain through the Mill Creek WDFW. If you need help or assistance with that get in touch with me.
Also, the Scattercreek area has the same rules apply for organized training events. Best of luck to the new club! Always good to see new clubs and opportunities for people to get their dogs out after hunting season and keep them happy and working!

Shouldn't a lab always be trained steady to shot so it can mark the bird/birds for retrieve? :dunno:
It doesn't matter if a dog is standing or sitting. Doesn't matter if his tail is high or low. As long as it stands still.
Bomb dogs are taught to point. They smell a mine they must freeze and not move a muscle.

Most clubs welcome anyone. Their focus will obviously be pointing labs. Try the link and get in touch with the listed contact.
:yeah: There was a Viszla at the first training. Gail, the owner, referred to her as a funny looking pointing lab. :chuckle:

I would like to see one that really pointed would be cool if it did, don't really get it myself. If you want a pointer get one in my opinion but hey to each there own.

Where is club based out of?
And where are training days being held?
They are out of Centralia WA
I don’t have a pointing Lab but I do have a flusher that came from the same litter of pointing Labs so I guess that would make him half pointing Lab

The next training day is this Sunday March 2 from 10 to 12 in Centralia. Send inquiries to Lily Lo at ririro@gmail.com
We will be using Lily's back yard again this month, and it's pretty small, which limits what we can do at this point. >:( There has been informal discussion on finding a place to train with all the facilities, but it is just discussion at this point. :dunno:
I'm still optimistic about this club. The club is still in it's infancy, resources are limited, but I see a real commitment from enough of the members so far that it's going to improve quickly :twocents:
