Like the title says, which sights do you have on your carry gun?
I am looking to replace the stock glock (23 and 21) sights for some tritium night sights, and have been looking at TruGlo TFO's and XS Big Dots. I just want to see what you guys are using and or recommend, plus I'm curious in general.
Thanks!

I have tritium night sights on my glock. They are really sweet.
-
Springfield 1911 Champion .45 with a Novak low mount adjustable tritium rear sight and a Kimber CDT front sight with Tritium insert.
-
I have the stock sights on all my handguns, but I don;t really use them. I learned years ago to shoot a handgun instinctively. Works for me
-
:yeah:copy that. For a carry defensive gun, its instinctive down the barrel. Care less about little tiny groups with using sights, its all about how quick clearing leather and emptying on center mass!
-
I would agree, but I skin Kydex.
-
:)Having good night sights does nothing to stop someone from shooting instinctively, they just give you options. I do not like the type with tubes, too weak looking.

:yeah: :yeah:
But the sights are tritium and they are amazing.

"clearing leather" is figurative...I use both leather and Kydex also. :)

Carry guns have sights?? Never noticed them before--- :chuckle:
-
Night sights also glow in the dark, possibly giving away your position...........

These are on all of my Glocks.

Im running this setup on my Glock 27. So far so good. I really like em.

I really never found sights on a defensive carry gun all that useful. :dunno:
In fact, I carried a Detonics MK VII for a while and loved it. I'd love to have that pistol back BTW. :bash: :bash:

Kind of interesting topic. I keep coming back to it and reading all the replies. Though I do agree sights on a carry gun are not used like a sights on a rifle / large hunting pistol....they are still used. Especially they front sight...in a situation where the poo is hitting the fan (up close and personal) if you reference your front sight you will be on target. For the people that don't practice instinctive shooting (most of you), this is a good rule to follow.
However if you are in a situation where the threat is a little further away both sights are very valuable. Examples of such could be; active shooter situation that you happen to be in the middle of, aggressive animal while in the woods, home invasion where you were able to barricade yourself, etc, etc, etc,
Ultimately....practice, practice, practice. Doesn't matter what sights you have if you don't practice.
-
Haha! All yapping aside, sights are a must.
-
A little more yap..most defensive situations are so close and quick, its point and shoot. Taking the time to line up the sights, may be too late. Always best to shoot your sights, but also spend a good amount of time learning instinctive!'

trijicon Hi def.
-
My sights are all blacked out.

All this talk of no sights must be the reason cops and criminals alike standing 10 feet apart and unloading every bullet dont hit anything. If only one would have concentrated on there sights and not the bullets wizzin by there head.
Morel of this thread. Concentrate on your sights, cause the guy shooting instinctively will miss most likely. :chuckle:
-
Crimson Trace
:yeah: me too.

I had XS BigDot sights on my Commander 1911.
Great sight package and sure helped hit the pepper popper in the course set out 15yds.
Every training program I've ever heard says "front sight, front sight, front sight"

I agree! Just because you have sights, which last time I checked. Most handguns come with them, doesn't mean you have to use them at point blank. I'm pretty Frikn quick with my sights! Run what ya brung and drive it the way it suits you.

I always figured if I had to use my carry gun, it would be "arm's length" or less, and so fast that sights would be irrelevant. Any farther away than that, and I'd probably be charged with murder! :twocents:

Unless the guy in the mall lighting up the place is 12 yards away from you about to pop somebody... Then you would probably want those sights..
-
My carry guns all have night sites and lasers.

agreed! Never have said you dont need sights.. Just the , with the majority of confrontations up close and personal, you wont need, have time to use them..no matter how freekin quick a person thinks they are... :) some may call this funny stuff, but those who have been in these situations know better...

Nah--those Mall shooters are cowards who think they're the only one with a gun. A few bullets zinging past him, and he'd be gone! Then It's a matter for the police to handle. :twocents:

WTH? A matter for the police who may be 10 mins away? How many others will he shoot as he runs away? Drop the SOB if you have the chance. And zinging past to where??? Into what or who?? Hit your target and be done with it... My :twocents:
-
What if you could be faster and more accurate using your sights? What if you knew exactly where the bullet was going before the bullet left the barrel?
You can do all of those things. Sights are neat when you know how to use them.

I reckon if you are faster and more accurate with your sites then you better use your sites. By the way, I always know whre my bullet is going before I pull the trigger

Big talk--means nothing. My gun is for MY protection, not somebody elses. :twocents:

Don't be putting words in my mouth. Not making any claims beyond saying it is irresponsible to suggest you fire a few warning shots and hope the shooter gets scared and runs away.
If you want to carry a gun to look out only for yourself and not give a rats ass about the little kid, mother, grandpa who is the next random target, good for you. But luckily, not everyone has that attitude. That's not just 'forum talk', it is just a matter if personal character and values.

Take your macho crap someplace else.

I use tritium straight 8 sights. Stacking 2 dots if you need to is much faster than aligning 3. Its not meant for target shooting, they are defensive sights on my glock 19. I would say on a defensive gun, a blank rear sight and a Fiber optic or tritium front sight dot are the fastest in self defense shooting where you use your sights.

Factory ruger sights on my sr40c. Very accurate

I'm running the blacked our rear sight and trijicon night sight up front. Need to spend some range time with it to see how I like it, but so far so good. I tried out a gun that had the stacked dots and really liked it. May switch to that if I don't like my current setup after some time...

Thanks for all the replies guys. Has anyone put Trijicon HD's on without using a sight pusher? I dont have a sight pusher and usually just use a punch to put sights on...
-
:)I do not know the price where you are but here in the McKenna gun store they installed my nite sights for $15.00 in about 10 mins. last week, on a Kimber 45.

S&W MP45 with three dot factory sights and the apex trigger kit and sear kit. crazy accurate now.
smooth trigger=accuracy in my book.
I have been thinking about a Novak tritium front blade, though.

Exactly what I did! I was a little worried at first because my brass drift left some residue on the side of the sight, but that's nothing a little hoppes #9 can't fix. Cant wait to shoot with them
