Yeah I helped my cousin bag a nice little 3x4 opening weekend rifle up there but I think it was more luck on that guy as we were not seeing much sign... I wont be hunting deer as I have already shot mine this year but my family still has tags... may try a little yote hunting while I am up there...

You must be talking about archery?  Doesn't the late rifle tag end tomorrow?

A friend of mine's son shot a decent buck yesterday.  Havn't seen any pics just a phone call.  I know of one other guy that has passed on a few small bucks he just isn't seeing any big bucks.

Our deer herd is struggling down this way too.  This seems to be the norm for our state.  We have a serious cat problem here in klickitat county though.  They are finally starting to do something about it though with dog hunters sometime this month I believe, but I don't know what the quota is hopefully about 500 of those *censored*s.  good luck, they are around still just not as plentiful as they use to be.

No joke on the cats. I turkey hunt down there religiously and have seen 4 cats in the last 2 springs. That is 4 too many to be seeing. But I'm still picking up a lot of shed antlers, so all is not lost. Good luck on the late hunt.

Just got a call from a buddy of mine in Goldendale.  His dad just shot a pretty decent buck.  They are going to pack it out as we speak.

Yep on the cats we were down there for deer and seen the kills in one of the canyons we hunt. Seen track also. Never did see the cat.  I did see a Mt. Goat, talked to the Biologist and he said it has been a weird year with goats showing ip in areas that they have never been before :dunno:

We're planning on hunting down there this next season. Plan on taking a scouting trip this summer. Wish it was not so far, I would take a trip and try to fill one of my cat tags.

My dad and uncle had tags but I don't think they were successful thought I will call him to see if they saw anything. I was successful a few years ago.

fc2038, I saw a goat in the weirdest spot down there...across the river from Leidl campground. Same goat? Anyway, strange spot for a goat.

Fish--- that is at the base of dead canyon right. I am sure it is and yea that would be the same goat. I watched him for about an hour with the old spotting scope. I contacted the wdfw and they said they have been found in weird places this year. One was found just above Stevenson. And another Billy that was radio collared swam across the Columbia and was visiting Oregon before he swam back. That was from Biologist Holgram from region 5. Couldn't believe that never heard of a goat swimming the Columbia.

that would probably be the goat that has been seen east of the dalles oregon. the dead canyon goat has been there awhile.

Last year at this time we were silver fishing on the klick and there was a mountain goat directly above the fisher hill bridge.  We would see him every morning bedded or feeding there, must be the same goat that has moved up the canyon.  An old timer from here said that "back in the day" there was a pretty significant band of them that hung out on the dalles mountains to the east of there.  Pretty cool to see him though, had never seen one in the wild before,  kinda surprised nobody poached him though.  Glad to here he is still around.

Be weird still to jump one while deer hunting. That would be a trip...and a drawers check.

247 I see you go to central.  went there to play baseball in 2000,  but hated the program, and the cold so called it quites after one quarter there.  Went to high school with the local hero from there, mallory holtman,  we were good friends back in the day.  All the guys on the baseball team that were older than me killed mulies from up there, why not you?

I have man, both years up here. Enjoying the hell out of myself up here, even though its only an hour from home (Yakima). The wind here can wear on a man though. Check out the pics on the muzzleloader forum. They are not big, but who cares. I spend A LOT of time down in your area turkey hunting and what not.

ill be there within a month with some hounds, way to many lions up there. thats an area where it wont take to much more to ruin the deer numbers
