Pretty lucky for the pilot and all the workers underneath him!!
-
can any one say "stupidity". trying to land with a cable hooked above you. very lucky all around.
-
If you watch closely the DA on the ground pulled the cable right into the rotor
-
did not see that at first look.
-
This guy wasn't so lucky. He got killed a few months later helo logging. RIP.

:yeah:
WOW
wonder if the cable was suppose to unhook from the chopper and failed to release? Looks like the guy on the ground thought it would be a brilliant idea to try and jerk the cable free from the hook and pulled it right into the rotors.
-
shouldn't there have been someone on the ground telling the pilot he wasn't clear?
I don't get him landing with cable hooked up. maybe if it was released on top & coiling underneath, but not hooked up. not a chopper pilot but I don't get it. bad communication?

Exactly. I used to work around helicopters and this was a big no no. This was not pilot error. it was ground crew error. Lucky to both be alive.
-
You can see it at 32-33 seconds. The ground crewman jumps up and pulls the cable into the rotors.
-
That was a bad situation that could have had far more serious consequences! I bet everyone there had to clean their shorts!

I think he might have lost his hand or some fingers, see how hard he gets flung?
