As excited as Iam I thought I would start a thread for spring bear. I have 5 points this year and applied for Dayton, Blue Creek, and Tucannon in that order. I use spring bear as a good reason to get in the woods and also learn country for my quality elk hunt which maybe someday I might draw(16 points). I plan to hunt from May 6-11 and May 20-26 for spring bear. My work schedule is 8 10's then 6 days off and that's why I have those dates off work. The open seat thread in the waterfowl thread enticed me to start this. I'm planning on going solo May 20-26 if anyone is interested with or without a tag. ( bring frame pack haha)

good luck spring bear taste so good i remember in the day when you didnt need to draw a tag hunting was so fun they were every where you should have no problem getting a tag with 5 points happy trails
-
I just submitted my application.........Monroe, 49 deg, Huckleberry, Dayton, and Blue creek. Drew Monroe last year, and had a blast. Good luck!
-
Good luck, James! With 5 points already your chances are pretty good. Dayton seems to be the most productive, but Blue Creek has good harvest results, too (although most of it is private, I am told--do you have a strategy for that?).
Pencil me in for that extra seat! (I even have a pack board...)

Are we getting 5 choices now? I thought it was only 4. Haven't done mine yet but will probably just apply for another point.

:chuckle: whoops! No, I was debating between the last 2. They were still all in my head when posting........You don't miss anything Bobcat :chuckle:

did you shoot a bear :dunno:
-
Kapowsin only
Tried to put my dad, my son and I in as a group. No go.... Apparently there's a two person group max for that hunt..
-
i only selected huckleberry. i know it lowers my chances only picking one unit, but thats where i want to kill bear. rather take out a fawn / calf killer from my own hunting area than from somebody elses.

nice his smile says it all good luck on tags this year

I'm new to this... Hunted last year's general. Scouted Spring and Summer, saw a few. Didn't see anything the season. Zero points. Picked Monroe, Skagit, Huckleberry, and 49° North. Not really expecting to draw, but WTH...

Same points, choices, different order. Maybe we could partner up :dunno: Good luck.
-
North Skagit!
Drew Kapowsin last year with no points didn't go.
-
I went all eastside areas this year. I'm starting over with points this year so I'm not expecting much given my draw history.
-
Resolved: If I draw a Spring Bear tag, I am going to call PermaGrinKid for hunting tips!

First year putting in. I went North Skagit and Monroe. Good luck to all who put in
-
kelly hill and Sherman for me
-
I did Monroe only this year. Really close to home so I can hunt most evenings after work.
-
Got my tag yesterday. However, only going for points. Ghosted it this year. Good luck everyone....I'll tag along and help any Monroe tag holders.
-
When you get drawn it will look something like this:

you can tag along with me.
-
Gladly....can you not shoot one 23 and a 1/2 minutes before dark and have to track it through the nasty of nasty stuff with only a .22 for backup? Please?
-
Stang shoots them right before dark and we have to blood trail for hours. Then sometimes they get up and run away again. Its a big pain in the butt. Seems like shooting one in the early morning hours would be best.
-
Agree 100%. Let me know.....I plan on spending some scouting time up and around where I got mine last year. We will need another "who drew Monroe" thread. There was some good info shared last year.
-
Need to start getting some cams ready.
-
I've got two out.

Monroe and Kapowsin.

Monroe and N Skagit. I can help out out in Monroe also if anyone want's help. I haven't hunted N Skagit, but I'd go along with someone up there also.
-
About time for you to draw again Ripper.......
-
About time for me to draw, i am in locally and if i dont draw i am giving up.... :'(
-
Monroe? How many points do you have?
-
I would guess the number of people putting in every year is going up.
-

Wenaha, Dayton, blue creek, lick creek
you picked one that is my favorite :bash: good luck..... I guess. :chuckle:
-
This is my first year and I put in for Monroe and North Skagit.
When I get drawn, and I'm sure I will :P, I have dibs on H20hunter! :chuckle:
Or, maybe next year...
-
Just points for me. I drew a spring tag last year, but didn't connect. Saw 6 all together. The wife and I are expecting a baby and I won't have time to hunt this spring. Dang that means no turkey either :o
-
I put in for Monroe so D-rock can show me C-Post
-

what did you put in for?
Monroe, 4pts....
I may put in for 101, gonna think that over till the weekend...
-
C-post isn't in the unit but I'll still show you a spot or two. I normally like the western part of the unit but stang and H20hunter both killed their spring bears in the eastern half of the unit.
-
West Blues and Starkey. Highly doubt I'm drawing W Blues. Starkey I have a shot, small, but a shot. Hopefully anytime between now and Thurs should find out.
-
Just Sherman for me, got a sweet place in Curlew where the big'uns wander in every spring. This will be the first time putting in for spring boo boo.
-

Only tags I drew last year were a 2nd Deer and MS Deer that were both mathematically impossible to NOT draw :chuckle:
-
What 2nd deer tag?
-
I only put in for Monroe. I only have 2 points so im not really holding my breath. Just hoping to get lucky.
-
What 2nd deer tag?
:peep:
-
I applied for my guaranteed over the counter spring bear tag, oh wait this is a WA forum :chuckle:
-
I went all in on Lincoln... Closest to home for me. Looks like I may be the only one on here that put in for that :dunno: Hopefully that doesn't mean its a bad hunt. Never applied for spring bear before, so won't be too surprised if it doesn't happen.
-
James K I put in for tucannon Dayton wenaha and still on the fence if I want 4th to be lick creek or mt view
if we draw the same maybe we can help each other out I have 6 points
-
All I put in for was lick creek. But it's only a point building year for me.
-
Lincoln will be a pretty easy draw, you just might get it with only one point. The issue I have with it even though I live right on the border, is that you will probably have to pay a fee to access the Weyerhaeuser land. Which I wouldn't even mind, if the hunting were better. Out of 75 permits issued in 2012, only 5 bears were killed. The data for 2013 is not available yet. It still would be a fun hunt, and I'd apply for it if I had more time to hunt. But I'm not willing to lose 8 points on a hunt that I most likely wouldn't even see a bear.
-
I drew wenaha last year so im starting over this season on points. took the old man with me last year on the hunt and he was hooked when we started seeing bears. He has never applied for spring bear either so we are applying as a group this year for just wenaha. Odds of drawing are probabaly really low but you gotta put your name in the hat to get lucky. Good luck everyone!
-
Points this year for me.
ET
-
kelly hill and Sherman for me
:yeah: me too. I saw some great bears last Spring in both units

sssshh, there are not bears in the wenaha!!

About time for you to draw again Ripper.......
It is about time, it was 2 years ago! I only have one point but the last time I drew I only had one or two points. I know the area so much better now that my chances should be better. I know where to scout/hunt, and where not too.

If I had 8 points  , I wouldn't either. I spent the last 6 years of working full time and night school, so ANY hunting is good enough for me... I probably won't get picky for another year or two... :) I hunt almost every season I can: High buck, late buck, general, multi-season, etc... Got a few years to make up for. I'm hoping to maybe even run across some Blacktail spots. :dunno: Shooting a bear would be a bonus though!
-
Dayton only for second year. 5 points. brother killed a beatiful color phase in lick creek last year 7footer

Yep...I know you know that I know a nice little few hundred yard walk down a narrow old lane that has good sign....would like to hang a cam along that stretch.
-
I'm just going to pound all my normal spots when I draw. I think I have them figured out now.
-
I would hope so......just walk on up...let a little climb the same tree...let the string go.
-
I would hope so......just walk on up...let a little climb the same tree...let the string go.
wouldn't that be nice. Maybe I'll climb the tree to and just finish him with a knife.
-
Monroe again for me and my son. You can't argue with hunting that close to home.
-

Putting this out there for all to witness....if D-Rock allows me to get a bear with a bow before him then he is a huge sissy face. There....I said it. Challenge laid down. Spring or general season.
-
Challenge exempted.
-
Pshaw....I'm getting a boo boo with the bow. I'll even carry your bow for you on a spring hunt so you have the option!
-

I need to get a few cams. That would be a good place to hang one. That whole area up there has good sign. I'm surprised I haven't heard of any being taken up there.
-
Agreed....
-
kelly hill and Sherman for me
:yeah: me too. I saw some great bears last Spring in both units
Careful up there - ran into a bruiser grizzly next to Sheep Creek a couple of Memorial Days back. Didn't draw a tag, just went for fun, to spot some critters.
I put in for Huckleberry (closest to home), 49, Kelly Hill, and Aladdin. Only have two points; hoping to get lucky.
If I don't draw, good chance I'll go buy the guaranteed Idaho tag and hunt Central Idaho wilderness, like last year. Must have seen 15+ in three days (over bait).
-
I've never applied for any special hunts. I couldn't find anywhere on the wdfw site where it specifies when the drawing results are up. Is it just a few days after the deadline or.... :dunno:
-
Typically the end of March for spring bear results.
-
I bought 2 new trail cams this last weekend. Wild Game Innovations Razor 6. They were on sale at Cabela's for 79.99. Marked down from 139.99. Nice cams and simple to use. Now I need bear boxes and a spring bear tag.
-
just put in for monroe, so did 2 others in my party, N. skagit second choice...no 3rd or 4th place....im not paying the timber company to work for them!

I talked to the WDFW and the person told me that the draws would happen next week due to the earlier hunt dates. Not sure if it's true but it's what I was told.

Wenaha for my dad and I. Good luck guys!
-
Still debating.
-
Liljozie and I are going for kapowsin again, last year was a first for us and we got a few areas figured out well, hopefully we can get in there again this year and lay the smack down on a teddy.
-
Still debating.
Lots of time, no need to rush this decision. I would sleep on it if I were you. :chuckle:

Monroe. If I Draw, I Can Hunt Everyday!

LOL
You just don't want me to apply in your backyard.
Actually I am debating on even putting in for points. Haven't bear hunted in a few years and am tired of giving more money then necessary to WDFW.
-
Monroe and skagit
-
Skagit
-
Points it is.
-
Skagit & Monroe. Haven't been drawn since '08 so it's 6 pts go'in in. Might need help w/Monroe for 50% of the meat.

I'd help you when I can for nothing sideswipe. Since we are both in stanwood, it would be easy. Best of luck to all in the draw.

I'll drive anywhere on the wetside to hunt with ya. Don't even need 50% of the meat.

Thanks guys! Hope to take you up on that. Stanwood eh?

Put in for Dayton, Sherman, Aladdin, and North Skagit.
You almost have all four corners of the state covered with your choices! :chuckle:
-
I put in for Skagit I have 4 points, how is that area?
-
Just points. I now have 8. No time because of soccer. I should be just about guaranteed to draw when I finally do put in.
