As excited as Iam I thought I would start a thread for spring bear. I have 5 points this year and applied for Dayton, Blue Creek, and Tucannon in that order. I use spring bear as a good reason to get in the woods and also learn country for my quality elk hunt which maybe someday I might draw(16 points). I plan to hunt from May 6-11 and May 20-26 for spring bear. My work schedule is 8 10's then 6 days off and that's why I have those dates off work. The open seat thread in the waterfowl thread enticed me to start this. I'm planning on going solo May 20-26 if anyone is interested with or without a tag. ( bring frame pack haha)
Same points, choices, different order. Maybe we could partner up :dunno: Good luck.

Good luck, James! With 5 points already your chances are pretty good. Dayton seems to be the most productive, but Blue Creek has good harvest results, too (although most of it is private, I am told--do you have a strategy for that?).

Only tags I drew last year were a 2nd Deer and MS Deer that were both mathematically impossible to NOT draw :chuckle:

I drew wenaha last year so im starting over this season on points. took the old man with me last year on the hunt and he was hooked when we started seeing bears. He has never applied for spring bear either so we are applying as a group this year for just wenaha. Odds of drawing are probabaly really low but you gotta put your name in the hat to get lucky. Lincoln will be a pretty easy draw, you just might get it with only one point. The issue I have with it even though I live right on the border, is that you will probably have to pay a fee to access the Weyerhaeuser land. Which I wouldn't even mind, if the hunting were better. Out of 75 permits issued in 2012, only 5 bears were killed. The data for 2013 is not available yet. It still would be a fun hunt, and I'd apply for it if I had more time to hunt. But I'm not willing to lose 8 points on a hunt that I most likely wouldn't even see a bear.
If I had 8 points :drool: , I wouldn't either. I spent the last 6 years of working full time and night school, so ANY hunting is good enough for me... I probably won't get picky for another year or two... :) I hunt almost every season I can: High buck, late buck, general, multi-season, etc... Got a few years to make up for. I'm hoping to maybe even run across some Blacktail spots. :dunno: Shooting a bear would be a bonus though!

Yep...I know you know that I know a nice little few hundred yard walk down a narrow old lane that has good sign....would like to hang a cam along that stretch.

I need to get a few cams. That would be a good place to hang one. That whole area up there has good sign. I'm surprised I haven't heard of any being taken up there.

Careful up there - ran into a bruiser grizzly next to Sheep Creek a couple of Memorial Days back. Didn't draw a tag, just went for fun, to spot some critters.
I put in for Huckleberry (closest to home), 49, Kelly Hill, and Aladdin. Only have two points; hoping to get lucky.
If I don't draw, good chance I'll go buy the guaranteed Idaho tag and hunt Central Idaho wilderness, like last year. Must have seen 15+ in three days (over bait).
