Title: .22 Can Choices??
Post by: h2ofowlr on February 19, 2014, 10:08:13 PM: For those running can's on there rim fires, I was wondering how much research did you do on them prior to purchase. Was pricing the main consideration? Which one did you choose to go with. I have been looking at them for quite a while and lot of manufactures out there.

Looked at:
Silencer Co - Sparrow.
Gemtech
Huntertown Arms
Tactical Innovations
AAC
SWR Spectre II
Thompson Machine Wasp

I am trying to get the best bang for the buck. It would be used on a rifle and pistol. Rifle for the back yard and on the pistol when out grouse hunting.

I wanted a can rated for 17HMR and 22WMR as well as 22LR.

Any issues cleaning this one? Everyone keeps saying to get one you can disassemble for a .22.

Have sold hunreds of Tac-Sol Cascade/Cascade Ti's. best value in a rimfire can hands down!

Specter II for the most feature packed can...

Rimfire cans are simple to clean, even if they dont dis-assemble.

You need more than just a tax stamp to make one. Manufacturer's license, and a whole bunch of other paperwork. cheaper and easier just to buy one... :twocents:

Not trying to be confrontational, but there are so many companies making cans now, it's not worth the time and expense to do all the R & D required to make one... :twocents: I'd have one in a minute if it wasn't for the $200 you have to give the government for a tax stamp. That gripes me to no end. I have no problem with the cost of the item, but all alone, It's not a destructive device. :dunno:

But what most, who want to make their own, don't know is that all one has to do is fill out the Form 1 and pay the bucks and you can make your own. Now, this doesn't allow you to manufacture and "deal" in the manufacturing of cans. And, in that, the home made can can never be sold or transferred to another individual. I am a tinkerer and love doing things myself, if I can. This is why I do all my own gun work and a lot more. I grew up with a Father who was a depression kid and leaned to do, from him.

Sometimes very unfortunate for me is the thought process of, "If I can do it myself, why pay someone else to do it for me." Some times, that costs me money, lol.

But man, you are right, I can think of a whole lot better things to spend $200 on.

I really like my can but I haven't shot through enough different brands to give a opinion. One thing that I'm know about all the 22rf cans is that the carbon build up in there fast. I have a sonic cleaner that the baffles go in every other week, around 100-150 rounds. Much longer and it's hard to get the baffles out.btw the back pressure sure causes a gun to dirty up fast.

. I sent in the paperwork for my Spectre II on May 25 2013 and still don't have it back. The first can I got it took right at 7 months.

This is what I have been seeing from guys with the baffle system. I may just go with the Silencerco Sparrow for the .22. Seems the easiest to pull apart, line up and clean.

Exactly! Get the money order yourself or go to a place that sends your funds out right away. Some places drag their feet on it.

there was a company in England that made suppressors for shotguns. Probably too much of a hassle to import them...

I always thought a pellet gun would work good for bird eradication in Parks and Golf Courses. With a laser sight for night shooting when nobody was around... And no, I've never done it! :chuckle:
