What are some of the best high hunts in wa?! What GMU'S specifically?

-
There are only a few of 'em. I would look at a map and figure out the GMUs myself. My guess is that the Pasayaten is among the better.

-
Better is a relative term.  I think a common theme with any of the units is:

 1)  Low deer densities
 2)  Hunter crowding near trailheads
 3)  Potential weather issues
 4)  A long hike in

Your best bet would be to locate several potential areas, and then go to them during the hunt.  The best laid plans of mice and men can epically fail when your newfound utopia has three camps in it during the hunting season.
-
Man...pretty early for the "where is da best HH spot!?"  thread...

-
They all have good potential. Scouting plays a big part in choosing an area, but you never really know until you are there during the season. The amount of pressure can make a huge difference, and you can't scout for that.

-
Find a spot where you can ride or drive right to wilderness boundary. Should be good. Also the High Hunt is not GMU specific. Its based off of Wilderness areas.

-
high hunt can be real busy one year and not the next depends on how fast the word travels. Scout it, give yourself lots of time to hunt it doesn't matter what time of the year it is you still have to hunt hard. The animal can feel the excess traffic on the trails.

Mt baker wilderness in 2014!  Some monster blacktails will get shot for sure a once in a lifetime opportunity for sure.

http://huntwashingtonstate.com/index.htm (http://huntwashingtonstate.com/index.htm)  This site offers more detail into specific GMUs that I have used in the past.  Might help in your decision making.

As long as  you don't mind seeing many animals, and love the rain. Also plan on a ton of hikers, most of whom despise hunters.

That's how we figured it out, used to hunt the Alpine Lakes, we took several fishing/scouting trips during the summer, then had to step aside as the packhorses passed us on the way in.
People everywhere, lots of camps, I was so disappointed, I stared at the ground on the way out, most fresh tracks I saw all week. Got to trailhead and there were deer eating the scattered piles of stuff on the ground near the horse trailers...
The next year, I camped at the trailhead, wore regular shoes and hunted out of camp, killed a 3X3 on the second day.
Only pack I have carried since has been to haul my lunch and spare clothes in, animal out.

Mt. Baker Wilderness isn't one of those that make up the high hunt. I guess you'll have to hunt it during one of the general seasons.

You are crazy not to try that spot out.   :chuckle:

Rule number 1 of the high hunt, don't talk about the high hunt.

If you give me 6 hours to chop a tree down I'll spend the first 4 hours sharpening the axe .." Abe Lincoln "

I am actually a bit bummed to see Baker wilderness on the high hunt, I think it will ruin it in about 2-3 years

Sorry, I didn't see your question until just now. Here's a link to the proposed 2014 hunting seasons:
