I'm banking on marten but the only I've ever seen was years ago and I remember it having a lot more girth. This one is 26" from tip to tip.
-
Marten 100%
-
That would be a world record ermine :chuckle:
-
:yeah:
A weasel is not only about half that length but they are white this time of year.
Nice job on the Marten. It should look a lot better when it's dried

not all weasels are white right now, i beleive it has something to do with elevation, i have seen a few weasels lately that are still dark, but i saw a couple up in the hills that were white

Woohoo this dude had been tripping my bobcat traps everyday so I slipped in a little trap and boom next day got'em!

I might be having the same problem at one set. What altitude did you catch this one at?
-
Between 800 and 1000'

good job !

Wow I have always been told you have to be above 3000' to find marten.

That's what I've always been led to believe but I've been cutting tracks at and below 1000' all over the place. After this catch I've converted a few of my muskrat traps for marten and now have four out and tomorrow will set number five.

Marten ...but are not they illegal to kill now ??
-
They are legal to trap but not hunt just like any weasel, otter, beaver etc.....

Kinda looks like a small fox. I'm aware that it's not.

Good job. We used to catch them frequently just off the beach in SE Alaska. Whenever there was much snow they really moved down to the lower elevations. I don't know what the market is now but imagine it is still worth almost 10 muskrat and is half the work of one to prepare. Last I knew buyers wanted them hair in with the bottom lip flap trimmed off.
